Should have done more research

The room was basic. But for $170 you'd expect just a little more. The upstairs walkways were slanted, as if they were about to collapse. The plumbing was noisy. I could tell exactly when neighbors used the restroom. The whole place gave off a haunted vibe with all the creaking and moaning. It was pretty close to Halloween, though. Maybe that was what they were going for?

Very good hotel

Pros: reachable location breakfast Price value
Cons: Elevator
I liked this hotel very much. The staff was very friendly and it was comfortable. Breakfast takes places in the Restaurant next to the hotel. It was great, there was a buffet. You also could make your own pancakes. We also went for dinner to that restaurant, too. It was very tasty.

Great Value for the Money

Pros: We were very impressed (and pleased) with how accomodating the staff was. We also enjoyed the hot breakfast buffet that was included with our stay.
Cons: The furniture and bedding could use an upgrade, but the room itself was comfortable enough and good value for the money.
Location: Most notably the Buck Owens Crystal Palace is a must place to visit. It's a great steak house and museum featuring live CW entertainment at night.
The decor was dated, but the room itself was was much larger than most hotel rooms we've stayed in. We had assumed that there would be a refrigerator in the room and we actually needed one for some food we were traveling with, but it didn't have one. I called to ask about upgrading to a room that did have one and the front desk clerk insisted on simply having one brought in. I thought that was very nice and accomodating since I had already begun unpacking and wasn't fond of the idea of carting my stuff to a different room. Before the man arrived, we noted that the air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air. It was a hot day and we were not looking forward to trying to sleep in a hot room. I was convinced in my mind that the A/C wasn't going to work and that we would be forced to move to another room after all. Shortly after that, the maintenance man arrived with both a refrigerator and a microwave oven. I asked why the A/C wasn't working and he noted that the thermostat wasn't properly set. He showed us how to set it correctly and the A/C immediately started blasting nice, cold air.

You get what you pay for

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet, comfortable
Cons: nothing
Don't misunderstand the title... For an average price in an average location, the hotel was adequate for our needs. It was not luxurious, but it was comfortable. Our stay was to vist elsewhere, not to "live in the hotel". As such, it was perfect. While it was close to the freeway and convenient, it was not noisy. It definitely suited our purposes.

Left too much to be desired

Room looked clean and comfortable but smelled too strong of masking agent. The laundry facility was closed to due problem and the jacuzzi was useless unless you like 70 degree water in a hot tub. No coffee in the lobby, in fact, nothing of use in the lobby except one computer station. The continental breakfast required walking across a parking lot to an ajacent building and by nine am, there wasn't even coffee available the first morning and on the second morning, the thing was just closed with no explanation. Never saw a pastry or juice althoug there was remnants of dry cereal. The curb appeal of the property is questionable and I was concerned for the security of my vehicle. The hotel is kinda out of the way bordering a town called Oildale which has an exremely bad reputation for drug and illegal activity. I would stay somewhere else if I were you.

Are you serious? Location, Location, Location!

I chose this hotel because of the reviews. But somebody needs to let people know the truth. My husband and I attended a convention this weekend. Having never stayed in Bakersfield, we booked our room through travel website. As soon as we got off the freeway, I knew we had picked a substandard location. It was clear as we passed the "Exocic Kitty's Gentlemans Club", just a block away from the hotel, we were on the wrong side of town. Most importantly, the staff was fine, the hotel was old, but obviously someone put money and the time in upgrading it. What a waste. tour of the area revealed no decent restaurants arThe hotel shares the lot with the Replay Lounge and Grill. Since our ound the hotel, we thought, hey we will give the Replay Grill a try. WRONG! We walked up, we walked out. The Replay, is a rundown sports bar, complete with pool tables, big screen TV's and lots of "talent" fit for the gentlemans club down the street. Our room was located on the ground floor, with direct view of the local talent and their friends who go outside to "smoke", " and have "boom box contests"! We were kept up all night, both nights by the sights and sounds that continued to "Replay" in the parking lot. In the morning we noted the emply plastic beer cups tossed about, even landing next to our car. We were up at least every hour. Besides lack of sleep, the bed was horrible, I suppose you can't blame that on the hotel. Nor can you blame the hotel for the spider we killed. But the price! * per night was outrages!

Very pleased with stay

his is evidently under new ownership and they have gone to considerable effort to upgrade it. I had read an old review and was rather doubtful but my nephew insisted it was good. I am glad we listened to him as it was indeed a pleasant stay--comfortable bed, impressive, comfortable lounge, attractive landscaping, good breakfast, and very friendly, helpful staff. There was not a lot of extra space in the single-bed room, but we were looking for a good place to spend the night and were quite satisfied.
