First room smelled like smoke, second room had stains on bed, floor, and bathroom. Only stayed one night out of the two nights we paid for. Hallways had a smell of wet carpet.

Cute and different Would stay again

It was cute with all the little pink sheep. Had a few small cosmetic flaws in the bathroom, but that did not take away from how nice it was.

Thank you for staying with us! Our pink sheep are happy to hear you enjoyed them, and we'll make sure that we put them to work fixing any issues in the bathrooms - "sheep up, or sheep out!".

Great for the Price

Pros: convenience as far as area, design, price
Cons: smell of room ?
Location: pretty close to anything you would need honestly
I recently stayed here in June of 2017 and I actually liked it. I wasn't sure what to expect based off other reviews but I don't really have any complaints about my stay. I stayed for 4 days and the price was decent. The hotel itself is really cute and in a good area as far as getting around. I have maybe 2 cons - one being that the room smelled kind of stale.. it wasn't dirty or anything but the smell was kind of weird, so i bought a 49 cent glade air freshener from target ad that helped a bit. also, there were maybe 1 or 2 beetles in the bathroom in all of the 4 days I was there, but i did do a bit of hiking and such sooo i very well could have invited them in myself lol.. The front desk staff was friendly, especially the youngest employee (cant remember her name) .. overall i would totally stay there again and plan to the next time i visit Austin : )

It started out so promising

So we arrived to the most helpful & friendly staff imaginable & then it started to go down hill. That night, we slept on the most rediculously hard bed. I have never had shoulder and back pain like that before. The next night the fire alarms went off at 4:30 in the morning. We panic, step out of room & are informed that they are malfunctioning, but someone was coming to fix them. They go off, we finally get back to sleep. Then, they go off again. I step out of the room to ask the front desk if they had any idea when this would stop happeneing & before I could even ask, the guy at the front desk was rude & dismissive. At that point I decided not to bother & made peace with the fact that I wasn't getting any more sleep. The next morning as we were getting ready to leave the alarms went off again. Pros - clean, free bottled water, inexpensive Cons - hard bed, faulty fire alarms, at least one rude staff member in an extremely irritating circumstance

Not the Taj Mahal.... BUT!!!

Obviously this isn't a 5 star hotel. No not at all. HOWEVER, if you're in town like my buddy and I were, for a concert and just partying around Austin, the Highlander is perfect for low budget and comfort. The rooms are clean, no bed bugs, and it serves for what exactly weekend party goers need... a safe clean place to rest your head. Located conveniently just off 35, it's easy to get to and well lit parking.
