The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean and comfortable too. The building is an older building but everything was really good.

Check your closet for a fan. We didn't see it until the last day. It would be handy for humid days. Spotlessly clean, comfortable bed and furniture, soft towels and bedding, extraordinary staff. Yes, there is a train. We didn't pay attention to it after our first night. Lovely spot in the heart of the city. If trains drive you batty, this is not your spot. Otherwise? Book NOW, it is a delightful place to start and end your day.

convenient location. Nice to be in apartment

Location: Train station right there. airport not far. Able to walk to dinner and some shops.
Liked that we could spread out in living area and kitchen vs stuck in a bedroom. Clean, easy, staff nice.

Great hotel, great part of town

We only stayed here one night, we had to catch a train in the morning. The train station is literally behind the building. 3 minute walk at most. The room was gigantic, a private bedroom, living area and kitchen! Super clean and very comfortable. Again, too bad we were only here one night. Right on the edge of downtown we walked to two bars and a restaurant and it took a total of 10 minutes. The hotel required your key to get in after 10 which made me feel good (safety). They even brought you breakfast to your room if you put in an order before one am. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Great hotel.

Good location, good digs, good service!

The service was really good.  When after the second day my key card quit working, it was easily turned back on.  The little extras were a plus - a free newspaper some mornings, free cookies, free wifi, free breakfast brought to your room and free parking.  The ONE downside to parking was that it was at the other end of the same block and you had to renew your parking pass each day as it was only written for exactly 24-hours from the time you got it.  Navigating around 2nd to 3rd street can be a little confusing, but really I think it was easier than navigating some of the one way streets in the 5th and 6th area blocks.  I've stayed at many hotels in downtown Anchorage, but this was my first at the Anchorage Grand Hotel.  I liked the location and felt that while it was a former apartment building that made my queen suite really neat because the bedroom had its own door.  You can hear the train station, but it really isn't any more obtrusive than at any other "nicer" costlier hotel just a block up.  ;)  For the price, the place, and the accommodations I was really pleased and would absolutely choose to stay there again when I need to be downtown Anchorage.

Great value and location

This hotel was very comfortable. I had a full kitchen, living room and bedroom with 2 flat screen TV's. Breakfasts and a paper were delivered to the door each morning and cookies were available at checkin. Hotel is only 2 blocks from downtown attractions. I will certainly stay here again if I return to Anchorage.

A Break that Refreshed

Alaska is exquisite. However, Mother Nature does most of the work with the hospitality industry lagging way behind what is considered professional. Very expensive with little service and average hotels. The Anchorage Grand was an exception. Located close to the train station for a quick hop to Seward, a pleasant person greeted you at the desk with cookies. Nicely decorated. Kitchenette. Comfortable. Clean. Still very expensive but at least you get something for what you pay.

This hotel was superb in service and cleanliness.

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet
After a long night of travel and a stay at a very dirty hotel prior to that, it was a welcome relief to land at the Anchorage Grand Hotel. The Hotel Manager was wonderful as well as all of the staff. Housekeeping was superb in their cleaning skills. The bed was comfortable and the one bedroom queen suite was very spacious. The kitchen came in handy with four mouths to feed. The continental breakfast was delivered to our door by 7AM every morning that we requested it. The hotel is centrally located (basically downtown but on the edge and on the hill above the Alaska Railroad). It was close to everything including the Anchorage Market and Festival, which was on the corner diagonally. That was a huge plus because the hotel utilizes a small parking lot just next to the hotel. No fighting for parking for us. You can walk anywhere downtown from the hotel comfortably. The only thing that may not be for all is that although it is up the street from beautiful Ships Creek where you can watch people fish for salmon, and up the hill from the Ulu Factory and the Alaska Railroad, the railroad IS a working railroad. The trains run all hours of the day and night. If you are a light sleeper it takes a little bit to get used to it. Take a pair of earplugs if you need and you are all set. Besides that, if you want to take a train day trip, you are all set and can walk down the hill to the quaint terminal. The nostalgia of being across the railroad was definitely worth the whistles of the trains. It was an amazing stay. We were very pleased with the pride that the staff takes in their hotel. We will definitely return.

home away from home only more relaxing!

i stayed at grand Anchorage hotel for one week with my family of three. They where very hospitable and offered lots of information about the city, they even helped me find a rental once i got there and realized i needed one. the room came with a full kitchen, dishwasher, dishes, pots, pans, cutlery, full fridge even a microwave.breakfast was free and delivered to the room every morning. they also had free fresh beaked cooks everyday at the desk. the hotel is located downtown not far from all the main attractions. the costal trail was very close to the hotel. the staff was very courtious and understanding. i would stay there again on my next trip to anchorage. the only negative was it was close a train station really close by. you only hear it at around 8:45 - 9:00am
