This is John Oliver’s office left as it was when he died. The house and all its contents were given to a foundation in Elkhart by a daughter of the original owner who had lived in the house most of her life. The decision was made to keep all the contents with the house so a tour is really like a step back in time.

River Shards (November 23, 2004) by Jan R. Martin, an Indianapolis artist. The 22’ tall, 8,000 lb. stainless steel-covered sculpture located at the headwaters of the cascading weirs is the centrepiece of the former industrial raceway that was transformed into a major water feature when Robert C. Beutter Riverfront Park in Mishawaka, Indiana, was created. (July 2015)

The National Studebaker Museum also contains a History Museum. That museum includes this fully furnished mansion which you can tour. It was constructed between 1885-97 for John Oliver and his family. He was a local business man who had developed a process to cool a cast iron casting of a plow blade which allowed it to be as smooth and strong as iron for a fraction of the price. There was a time when the Oliver plow was was the #1 plow in the world!
