From the outside, it looks like a collection of handsome historic buildings. Inside, it reveals itself to be a masterclass in Scandinavian practicality. There is space to spread out, a kitchen to prepare breakfast, and enough thoughtful touches to make you suspect that someone involved in the design process had actually traveled before. The location is so perfectly placed that Reykjavík seems to have arranged itself around the hotel as a courtesy to guests.
