Location is great. Hotel is not.

Pros: The location.
Cons: The hotel could use a very extensive renovation with most of the interior painting, fixtures, and carpeting.
Location: It's right across the street from the beach and within walking distance to restaurants and shops. Very close to Santa Barbara's famed "State Street".
For the price paid, this hotel was a disappointment. It was run down, old, and came complete with strange smells. They do a halfway decent job of "trying" to keep it up, but that doesn't stop this hotel for showing its age. I think the best way to describe my experience is to say I felt like I was staying in a cheap Motel 6 that had been renamed. Now here's the good part. This hotel is located right across the street from the beach, so if that's what really matters to you, then you might overlook the condition of the rooms. It's also within walking distance to restaurants and shops, so I'd rate this place very highly on location. Unfortunately for me, I was there for the wineries about 25 miles away, not necessarily for the beach. I would have gotten a hotel closer to the wineries, but I wanted to be near more restaurants and stores. Almost all of Santa Barbara's small hotels are outrageously overpriced because it's a touristy beach town near wine country, so despite what I've said above, this is about the best you'll get (especially near the beach) for a reasonable price. I'd recommend this particular hotel to others only if they care much more about the location than they do about the condition of the hotel.

West beach inn- pleasant surprise

Perfect location for walking to beach, pier, marina, state street and funk zone. Across street from beach. Street side has great views but can be noisy- we turned on ac fan and we're fine. Beds and pillows were great. 5:00 wine and cheese nice touch, ok continental breakfast. Great boiled eggs. Nice small well kept inn. Had 2 rooms, party of 5 rooms good sized with balconies overlooking ocean.

Lovely oasis

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the West Beach. Our room was quiet, well appointed and very clean. The view, looking through the garden out to the sea was gorgeous. We enjoyed the delicious pastries, and fresh fruit in the morning sitting at the table and chairs outside of our room. It was perfect. The location by sea gave us the opportunity to ditch the car and walk to restaurants, shopping or on the beach. Ultimately relaxing! The only complaint I have is that the pillows were very soft, which is probably just my personal preference of a firm pillow. Free internet is a super plus!

Nice location

Pros: Free breakfast
This hotel is between the wharf and harbor - a short walk to either. The room and breakfast were average. Nice outside seating as we had a garden facing room.

Renovated, maintained, but loud .

We were on the first floor with our room facing the courtyard. I was woken up pretty early with the gardeners and other maintenance staff. Their Wifi was also horrible, the signal wouldnt last more than 3 minutes, and when it did, it was crawling.

Great location, satisfactory stay

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet
This is an older hotel that’s been “refreshed,” though signs of age are still visible. The location is fantastic--directly across from the beach, and several blocks from State Street. We went during low season, so rates were affordable. There was a terrible sulfur smell emanating from the sink, which was somewhat (but not completely) mitigated after we brought it to management’s attention. The cleaning staff is good. The complimentary continental breakfast is serviceable, though the in-room refrigerator allows for stashing any other goods you may need. All in all, a satisfactory stay, and at least affordable (in February) in a town where hotel room rates rival, and in some cases surpass, those in New York City.
