VERY nice staff, rooms need updating & cleaning

Pros: Very nice staff. Very close to the beach.
Cons: Updating carpets & fixtures
The front desk staff was incredibly helpful and nice. The services - milk and cookies and breakfast - were very thoughtful. The room was... dingy. Overall, it was as clean as it could be, but the carpet and fixtures were clearly quite worn (and there was a stain on the sheets, which I prayed wasn't the blood it appeared to be). Could be a great place with a bit of a facelift.

Rooms not to expectations

the online pictures looks great. The room was musty, I opened doors and window to air out, after a few hour the musty odor did not dissipate, my eyes became itchy and watery and I could not stand to be in the room. We had 2 rooms booked for Friday through Monday with my family. The other room did not suffice. The staff tried to look for other rooms to accommodate my family but nil. We ended leaving after a few hours.

love this hotel!

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, free bike rental, close to beach
My family has stayed at this hotel twice and we love it! The rooms are just fine, and it feels welcoming since it is a relatively small hotel. We love the location (a short wallk down the street to the beach, and a short walk to State St. with many shops and restaurants), and the free bike rentals are so nice! Perfect for riding down to the beach especially since Santa Barbara is so bike friendly. We would absolutely reccomend this hotel!

Wonderful one night stay.

Pros: Free breakfast, Quiet, wine and cheese, milk and cookies, free dvd rental, jacazzi and pool
What a wonderful stay we had here. We checked in and enjoyed the wine and cheese layout, later the milk and cookies, free DVD rental, and in the morning the complimentary and thorough breakfast. The room was nice. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were a little flat. Additional pillows were available in the closet. The staff that checked us in and out were fabulous, professional and courteous and very fast. I would definitely recommend the Inn by the Harbor to others.

Very Nice Hotel - Don't Believe the Bad Reviews

I stayed here one evening before a job interview I had the following morning. The hotel is very nice - it's quiet and the rooms are very well furnished. The neighborhood is perfectly nice. It's not smack in the middle of town, but it is very close to the ocean. I arrived late and they made accommodations to check me in (it's a family-run place). If you are staying a night or two in Santa Barbara, this is a very nice place.

Not what I was expecting

Cons: scary
This is basically a motor lodge. Not what it looks like in the pictures. The room was very small and had poor security from a sliding glass door balcony that was accessible to anyone on the property. You can walk to the beach and wharf but through mostly bad areas with transients and hoodlums. There was also a gym listed that is on a different nearby property and was not explained upon check in.

Don't Believe The Photos

When we arrived we thought our navigation had gotten us lost. We could not believe it was the same Hotel we had seen online. It was in a very sketchy neighborhood, but worst of all it smelt like horse manure and was very dirty. The rooms are so small two people and luggage barley fit, they have no privacy other rooms look right into yours. It was so BAD we could not bring our selves to stay here.

Excellent Value

All of the rooms have been upgraded and the rates are competitive for Santa Barbara. All the rooms & office enclose a courtyard with landscaping & the pool/spa making it seem very private with the cars & traffic out of view. The rooms seem very quite; however, being an upgraded property they are relatively small which is fine for a few days but maybe not for a week as storage for clothing is limited to a hanging closed with a shelf above and lacks drawers for other items. Staff is friendly & helpful and the continental breakfast is excellent as are the wine, cheese & cookies provided later in the day - sitting outside in the garden are or by the pool is vey comfortable and makes up for the small room. From the hotel its a half-mile walk to downtown or the pier and only about 3 blocks to the beach.

Don't be deceived by Hotel Picture

Place is overpriced for what you receive. The rooms are postage stamp size. Two people can bearly fit in the bathroom together. We had mold on the shower head. Not the greatest neiborhood. Lousy parking if you can get it. We paid over two hundred a night plus city taxes. We booked for two nights and if we could have canceled the second night without loosing our money we would have. Terrible place. Stayed there 8/29/2008 & 8/30/2008. Richard & Elizabeth Vals
