Nice hotel within walking distance to the marina

Pros: Staff was wonderful. The doorman in the morning to early afternoon provided 5 platinum star customer service every day we were there.
Cons: The food/room service is extremely overpriced, but there are many good restaurants within walking distance that one can go to and enjoy a good meal.
Location: Gaslamp quarters is a fun place to explore and shop. Marina is within a 20 minute walk. Trolley runs every 15 minutes.
Staff at the Omni San Diego were extremely friendly, courteous and respectful. A lot to see and do within walking distance.

Great Location

Pros: There is a private entrance to Petco park from the hotel.
We booked the Omni in the Gas Lamp area of San Diego after previously staying at the Omni San Francisco in March of this year. While the ambiance is completely different it is still a beautiful hotel with great views of the area. I, however, was disappointed with the staff for not acknowledging that we were celebrating my wife's 60th birthday and also for not receiving any type of perk for being a member of their rewards program. Although we booked our stay through Travelocity, which was the same case in San Francisco, we still received complementary breakfast coffee and water at the San Francisco hotel. When we registered at our arrival I told the staff that we were celebrating my wife's 60th birthday. I didn't expect much but I thought that she would be acknowledged in some small way. While I understand why we don't get any rewards points for booking our stay through a third party I think that rewards members should still be offered some perks for being members and still deciding to stay at the Omni since there are many other beautiful hotels in the same area. We did have dinner at the hotel restaurant, McCormick and Schmick's which was mediocre at best. The fish and chips should be described as fish nuggets and over cooked chips. I would not recommend it since there are so many other choices nearby. When we were asked about our stay at checkout I mentioned how disappointed I was for not acknowledging my wife's milestone birthday. The hotel did remove 1day of parking.

Nice hotel, but they ding you for $

This is a really nice place, right outside the stadium, close to the beach and attractions, and a block from the Gas Lamp District. The staff is great and the rooms are nice. But beware. They charge $40 a day for parking, which is valet only. So you either have to pay that or park in public parking down the street. While it can be cheaper to park in public parking, you have to pay a $15 dollar fee every time you come back in. In other words, you pay $15 a day if your car doesn't leave the lot. But if you do leave the lot and come back it's another $15. Then of course you have to walk back and forth to the hotel. Second, they charge $9.95 per day for wi-fi. I complained and they dropped the charge, but still, had I been in a better mood at the moment, I wouldn't have complained. So between parking and wi-fi, my room almost cost $50 a day more than I'd planned for. Oh, if you sign up to be a member of the Omni Club (or whatever it's called), the wi-fi is free, but at this point in my life I just don't need another solicitation email to delete every day. Third, there's no coffee pot in the room. By now, even the lower rate motels have this. This one should too. $15 for continental breakfast. Ouch. All that said, I would stay there again. I would just have to plan to spend an extra $50+ per night. It is a nice place in a great location with helpful and friendly staff.

Beware of extra fees

All of the staff was extremely friendly! Every time I walked in the door I was welcomed with a smile! The room was clean minus some small things that weren't perfect but nothing as bad to say an eyesore. When checking in my credit card was charged an extra 50 dollars a night as a deposit which I was unaware about before traveling across the country. The day before I left I checked my bank account to see another 160 dollar charge from the hotel. After going to the desk they admitted they had made a mistake but wouldn't give me my money back for 5-7 business days! This was the last of my spending money that I had for my vacation and our a damper on things I would have liked to do on my last day. Overall it was a pleasurable experience but me having to suffer for their mistake really was unacceptable.

Heart of downtown

The Omni is a clean, well run and nicely decorated hotel that is right next to the ballpark and the Gaslamp. My only complaint is that the 'southern' facing rooms get a lot of noise from the trolley and trains throughout the night. I knew I was in trouble when there were ear plugs in the drawer. That said the higher floors have baloconies and great views...
