Top-notch hotel, excellent location

Pros: General Comfort/cleanliness - Junior suites on the fifth floor. The views of the gardens are sweeping and the terraces are large. Great breakfast.
Location: The hotel is surrounded by excellent restaurants, shopping, and key historic sites.
The three critical items that we typically look for when choosing a hotel are service, location and the general comfort/cleanliness of the hotel. We could not have asked for anything more than what Hotel Splendide Royal delivered in those categories during our stay. 1) Service - The description of "top-notch" does not adequately do justice to the level of service that we received. For example, we arrived at the hotel early around 7:00 a.m. local time (well before standard check-in times) and we were accommodated with a lovely standard room where we could rest for the remainder of the morning and afternoon while our suite was being prepared. Many hotels require you to book and pay for a room the night before your arrival to receive this type of accommodation. The hotel staff was very friendly and informative, and everyone we encountered spoke excellent English. They provided us with good information on everything from restaurants to tours and transportation to other cities. The prosecco and large fruit plate left in the room on our first night were a nice touch as we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. 2) Location - We were able to walk to many of the major sites directly from the hotel and rarely had to rely on public transportation. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and the Parthenon, etc. are only minutes away. There was no shortage of a variety of restaurants and shopping in the area as well.

December great time to visit Rome . The city is beautifully decorated for Christmas and you do not have the crowds that are there in summer. Much easier to see the sights !

hotel lived up to it's name.

The hotel lived up to it's name. Our stay in Rome was splendid. The Jr. suite we stayed in was very comfortable and spacious. The decor of the hotel was Roman classical which might not be everyone's taste with it's ornate columns and moldings with marble floors and gold accents but we loved it. The restaurant on the 7th floor was pricey but the food was great and the view was magnificent. The breakfast buffet on the 6th floor was fantastic and every member of the staff was friendly, helpful and delivered excellent customer service. It's located in a very nice residential part of Rome away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to walt to the Spanish steps and Trevi Fountain. Short cab ride away from Vatican and Coliseum. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone. Rich R. from Long Island, NY

Pros: Terrific breakfast in a terraced restaurant with marvelous views of Rome. The buffet breakfast is included in the room rate.
Cons: The standard bedroom is fairly small.
Location: Terrific restaurants near the Via Veneto and just a short walk to the Spanish Steps
A charming small hotel located a short distance from the Via Veneto. A very elegant lobby.

Gracious and efficient service, ideal location, elegant and relaxed atmosphere

Pros: room with garden view, great location
The excellent service began when i was making initial inquiries - the reservation staff responded quickly, answered all my questions fully and then were able to ensure that my special requests were honored. When we arrived after a long flight from NYC, all our needs were met and the rooms were well appointed, clean and extremely comfortable (even my pre-arrival request for down pillows had been remembered and were in our beds). Breakfast upstairs was calm, in a beautiful dining area with attentive and efficient staff - the buffet was never chaotic, was always filled with delicious and fresh foods (breads, pastries, frest fruit and yoghurt assortments), eggs and hot foods. We found that the concierge staff were very helpful with suggesting authentic and delicious restaurants (which were appropriate for families: we were with our daughters: well travelled and ages 12 and 15) as well as securing reservations for museums (Galleria Borghese) and taxis. The location for us was perfect; it was a huge relief to be out of the mania closer to the Spanish Steps and as we are all walkers, found it easily accessible to the rest of the city (we didn't mind walking up the big hill). We used the spa and it was a great break for all of us when we were so tired from sight seeing.

Pros: Quiet, clean comfortable helpful staff, great location off via veneto!, amazing views overlooking rome!, michelin star restaurant
It was the best hotel I've ever been!! REALLY SPLENDIDE and SUPER AMAZING STAY! The staff were excellent and couldn't be more helpful. It was snowing whilst we were there and they went over and above to help make our stay comfortable. The rooms were big as was the bathroom. The service was exceptional, friendly, and helpful. The room was beautiful. The restaurant excellent but the views over Rome were amazing, especially in the snow! Very good location, just a few minutes walk from Spanish Steps. Breakfast at the top floor with very nice view. Staff polite and helpful at our requests. Room very spacious and nicely decorated. In general, I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this hotel to others!!! Excellent in every aspect! great attention to details! They ugraded our room to a suite upon arrival breakfast view & restaurant top floor Location. So what can i tell you more? The Splendide Royale is deceptively superb located disceetly off the Via Veneto. The proximity to the Via Veneto and it's excellent shopping and dining options is a real plus. I would strongly recommend this hotel for pleasure or business travelers

NOT Splendide

My husband and I just came back from staying two nights at the "Royal" Splendide which was anything but splendid or royal. Don't be fooled by the pictures - it claims to be 5 star - but 3.5 at best!! We were promised a king bed in writing from the manager and were given this tiny dark room (no window in the bed area!) I pulled out my copy of the email confirming a king and they tried to convince me that THIS was a king bed! Then they said they had no other rooms except one on the first floor. It had two single beds pushed together. We had just come off a 17 day mediterranean cruise and could NOT believe that this is where we were going to spend our last two nights. We agreed begrudglly as it was an improvement over the jail cel we were . Within 5 minutes we heard scraping noises and gushing water in the walls -no exageration. I zipped up my suitcase and we said we were not going to accept this room. There were two miserable, (who I will not call gentlemen) at the front desk. One man said that you get what you pay for and that we should have booked a more expensive room. We booked through web - Can you imagine hearing this? My husband managed to "find" a new room with "alas" a real king size bed but you still heard every movement in the surrounding rooms including running water each time someone flushed/showered, walking overhead at 3:30 am, etc. The bed was like a rock hard slab. We asked for a padding night 2. Honestly, there is no exaggerating in this summary! Lesson learned - don't take a non refundable rate.

Fantastic place

The Splendide Royale has a great location; quiet, across the street from the beautiful and restful Borghese Park, near Spanish Steps, Via Veneto, and Borghese Museum. Wonderful breakfast overlooking park, with great coffee, fruit, eggs and meat. In Rome it is NECESSARY to be in a place with peace and quiet which this hotel allows. The 20 minutes distance from the crazy loud and crowded Pantheon area is worth a mllion dollars

Great Place.

The hotel was perfect. The location was superb and the staff very friendly and helpful. The room and bath were spacious and well appointed. The breakfast was great but the rooftop dining room in the evening was way over priced. I highly recommend this hotel.
