Modern hotel in a convenient location very near the Campo di Fiori market and piazza, and within walking distance of just about everything (or hop on a bus 1/2 block away). Excellent wifi connection and incredible free breakfast (charming staff in the dining room). Across the street is Forno Roscioli, est. 1824, which you can smell from your room. The hotel staff were very helpful especially with directions. Beds are a little firm and there is a bit of city noise but those are the only slight negatives. Overall we loved our stay at Hotel Smeraldo. Very clean rooms, nice rooftop terrace, a great value and great location. We walked some 55 miles during our time in Rome.

Great location

The hotel was perfectly located. Room was quite small. The bed was very hard with hard pillows and noisy. You could hear anyone take a shower, flush the toilet or move a chair. The breakfast staff were very nice a served wonderful espresso or cappuccino.

Pros: location. breakfast buffet
Cons: air conditioning,
located within walking distance (1/2 hour) of many attractions ( Pantheon, Trevi, Colosseum, Vatican, Campo di Fiori). Nice breakfast buffet- attentive staff. We were in an economy room- very small, small window.Newly renovated and very modern but has a mold problem in the shower. Visited mid Oct and the hotel had turned off air- room was 79 at 8PM. They did provide a fan upon request. Shower a decent size compared to others we have stayed in Europe.

Nice and clean hotel in a great location

Pros: Location, helpful staff, cleanliness and comfort
Location: Sites, cafes and shops are within steps of the hotel. You will be immersed in the Roman experience at this hotel.
This hotel was conveniently located in walking distance to most sights in Rome. The staff was friendly and helpful with giving recommendations and directions and dependable with arranging transportation to the airport. The rooms were clean and comfortable. This hotel was a good value.

Growing Pains

Pros: Fine location, pleasant Staff. Good breakfast.
Cons: Control of noise by guests exiting very early and/or returning rather late.
Location: About 5 min stroll to Campo De Fiore in one direction, or Jewish Ghetto in the other. A pleasant 10 min amble to Pantheon to the North.
Stayed here in 2016 with no issues. Last week a 2-bed room for 2 persons proved to be a problem. The "Annex" across the street from the original hotel has a very tight lift which operates sporadically. On first floor, considerable noise every day from other guests entering and exiting during early AM and late PM. Inside the room, space is rather cramped. (I know that this is common in Europe. However the shower stall is no more than 3 feet by 3 feet, if that.) The staff are pleasant and try to satisfy, but they cannot alter reality. The location is great for easy access to the best things Rome has to offer. We stretched our Overall Rating from 2 to 3, but in good conscience cannot go any higher.

Sweet hotel off the beaten path

Pros: location, room amenities, staff and breakfast. Very close to Piazza Navona and Campo della Fiore. I would stay here again.
While small, this hotel had everything I needed. Breakfast (included) was great, staff very helpful and quiet because if was in a little alley. It is very close to most attractions and I enjoyed myself in Rome.
