Riu Jalisco-Rundown Resort

Pros: Location of the hotel; outside appearance was nice - good grounds with native plants.
Cons: More professional staff; if you're expecting a lot of people, insure there is enough staff to accommodate the crowds.
The good: food was tasty-great variety; location was good, nice beach area. The bad: rundown hotel; staff was not very friendly or helpful; room was comfortable, but the door to the patio was broken and bugs would get into the room; towels felt like rubbing sand paper on your skin; we went during a time that most locals were there on vacation too so it was very crowded; kids were allowed in places we felt were not appropriate - bar stools; the pool bar, etc. The staff would not clean the buffet areas quick enough (understaffed maybe?), but families would spill on the serving areas or by the eating areas and not get cleaned up quickly. A few times we actually had to clean off our own table in order to sit and eat. We understand it's an open air environment at one of the restaurants, but flying birds all the time thru the restaurant were not shooed away by the staff. Actually saw a few birds dump on top of tables/chairs, etc. Staff did nothing until we brought it to their attention. Entertainment? Minimal. Only show that was worth the entire week's worth of entertainment was a Michael Jackson imitator. The same songs were played by the live band every single night. Games played with guests, again, everyday were the same. The pool was very dirty. We understand there were a lot of people, but maintenance needs to be done quickly and professionally in order to avoid the foggy appearance of the water and debris floating everywhere. Won't be staying here again.

Would recommend to families or couples!

We ALWAYS stay at Riu properties when we go to Mexico. It is always clean, the staff is friendly and the food is incredible. They do not have top shelf liquor which would be our only complaint but other than that, our room was clean and air conditioned. The restaurants opened early, stayed open all day and late til 1030 or so. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the hotel was on a nice part of the beach. When reading google reviews about puerto Vallarta we became concerned because a lot of people said they couldn't swim in the water- now, it wasn't crystal blue like on the gulf side, but there was no sign of pollution or jellyfish which was nice. EVERYONE was swimming in the beach at our hotel so we felt comfortable to go in. Overall it was an amazing trip, would recommend this resort WELL over the other ones near it.

APRIL stay 2017

Pros: 2 bedroom suite was perfect for the family, only issue is it's noisy til 11:30pm d/t entertainment.
Cons: grouting around the tub/shower was sloppy and jetted tub did not work - but no big deal
Location: Location is farther from the airport, but Nuevo Vallarta is so gorgeous. We ventured out to swim with dolphins & it was best day ever.
Just got home from our vacation and it was great. The beach is amazing. Incredible buffet and restaurants are pretty good. Staff are superb! Smiles and friendliness go a long way. They were always ready to assist us.

We won't be going back.

I have been to Mexico at least twelve times and this place had the worst food by far. Breakfast was good but the other two meals were not worth eating at any of the restaurants and we tried them all. The food was usually Luke warm to cold and all the deserts seemed to be the same that they serve at the Chinese buffets. The towels will remove the first layer of skin, they were so rough. The beds are also some of the hardest we have ever slept on. Luckily they had some pillow toppers till available. The entertainment was also pretty boring. The shows were less than an hour long and outdoors in the heat. I would not recommend this hotel to a friend.

The staff in the hotel were great (BUT)

Pros: Great setting & landscaping. Immaculate care of grounds. Staff was fantastic. Bartenders were wonderful & friendly but overwhelmed in the adult pool
Cons: Ramp at the pool bar was tile and extremely slick when wet. I took a step to cross it and fell flat on my side. Saw 5-6 others fall also. Hazardous!!!
Location: Had to get taxi to go anywhere. 20 minutes to PV. Nothing in walking distance.
On our side of the hotel there were four floors of rooms and four ice machines; however only one worked. It seemed that there was no intent to fix them. There were signs claiming to be sorry for the inconvenience but we stayed two weeks and nothing was done. Several times the one ice machine was out of ice because of folks filling coolers. The hotel rooms had an extremely firm bed with wrinkled mattress covers under the sheets which was uncomfortable. The six story horseshoe shaped hotel had a beautiful court yard but it amplified sound terribly. The hotel had a night club which opened at 11:00 and closed at 2:00 so all the drunken clubbers loved to yell at the top of their lungs and woke us up at 2:00 when they left the club. I complained several times. They needed some staff on duty at the club to keep the idiots in check. I should not have had to call night after night. There were 3 pools, one was designed for toddlers, another for parents and young children, and the other presumably for adults with a swim up bar. The toddler pool was used very little. The pool designed for young children with slides and a very nice design was used a little 5-10 kids and a few adults. The seemingly adult pool was full of kids and babies and teens and adults. Kids and adults sat at the bar taking up all of the room around the bar. It was difficult to get a drink and it took 5-10 minutes to get any ones attention due to the congestion. The bartenders were overwhelmed.

Nice Hotel

Pros: the restaurants the food the pools and that is close to the beach.
Cons: maintenance to the bathrooms some smell very bad.
The Hotel is nice but not all rooms have an outside nice view so many rooms have the outside view to the back of the Hotel which is not a nice view we the customers don't have the option to chose what view do I want for my room and they give were ever they want. I was very disappointment when they give me the last room at the far right corner with no view I protested and finally the next day they give a better room

Riu Jalisco "All Inclusive" is excelllent.

Cons: Entertainment was just so-so. Nothing spectacular. I heard the Michael Jackson show was spectacular, but it wasn't showing during our stay.
Location: Location was REMOTE. Had to take taxi to downtown.
Front desk staff was excellent at check-in, plus answering any questions during stay. Dining staff was also excellent. Food, especially their FRESH FRUITS were excellent. Beach and pools were great too.

You get what you pay for

Pros: Nothing great about it.
Cons: Everything.
Location: It's far from PV downtown. There's Vallarta Adentures, about a 10minute drive and they offer water and outdoor activities.
I stayed at Riu Jalisco, which is also known as Riu ClubHotel, last week. There are a few Riu's in the vicinity which can cause confusion for the guests & surprisingly for the drivers. I purchased a RT shuttle for my party of 5. The driver picked us up at the airport & dropped us off at what we thought was our resort, but wasn't. The driver said, "Welcome to your resort, Riu Jalisco", took out our luggage, and drove off. I attempted to check in, but the front desk couldn't find my reservation. Turns out we were at Riu Vallarta & our actual resort was next door, a 2 minute walk. Completely unacceptable and unreliable transportation. Thanks Travelocity & Grayline for a great kick off to my vacation. Avoid staying here on the weekend, resort taken over by locals. Front Lobby: Really nice. It reminds me of an upscale club. High ceilings, mosaic tiles, modern art and light fixtures. Staff: Not the friendliest. They don't smile, acknowledge guests, and any request/question you have is a burden for them. There were a few superstar bartenders and servers (Alfonso, Alberto, & Humberto!), otherwise no one else worth mentioning. WiFi: They offer free WiFi, but only in the lobby and can only allow 2 devices/room reservation. If you have more than 2 devices, they offer WiFi for about ~$30-40USD for 4 devices MAX. Junior Suite: Stayed in a jr. suite & it was decent looking. Once you look closely, rust everywhere in the shower. Food: Not great. I was on a chip + salsa & fruit diet
