Pros: It's a very pretty hotel, and we thought it was clean, until the bed bugs appeared.
Cons: They could exterminate. Also, the shower in one bathroom backed up every day so that water pooled around our ankles.
Location: It's Pigalle, so there are a lot of strip clubs nearby. The club next door let out one morning at 6am. Didn't bother us at night but was funny.
We only managed to stay two of the four nights that we were booked because my daughter awoke the second morning to find many bed bugs crawling on her pillows! I've stayed at many hotels, and this is my first encounter with bed bugs. The hotel offered to put her in another room, but none of my family wanted to stay so we immediately changed our travel plans and moved to another hotel. My husband had commented from the moment that we arrived in our rooms (we had three rooms rented for five people) that the mattresses were old. They noticeably sag in the middle. I kind of dismissed that as charm for an old European hotel. It never occurred to me that there would be critters crawling in those old mattresses. After the bed bug discovery, someone from the hotel called my daughter to tell her that the bed bugs probably came from the Metro nearby (WHAT?), and that she needed to boil all of her clothes to make sure that they weren't infested. Well, that wasn't exactly helpful since they weren't offering any assistance with her clothing. Nor did they offer to refund the room fee. I was told to e-mail management. I did. I never received a response! We are now treating the bites that my daughter received.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your experience in our hotel. We are extremely sorry about the unpleasant experience that you had, yet there are a few points in your comment that seem to be misunderstanding. The Hotel’s offer to change your daughter’s room early in morning as soon as you informed the staff about the problem was an immediate solution, though a temporary one, to keep your daughter away from the unpleasant situation. As soon as you changed the room, I personally contacted the manager and tried to figure out the best way to help you. You had your breakfast and demanded a cab right away without telling the reception that you wanted to leave so we could not help in any way possible. One solution could be offering you the three rooms in another hotel of the same group, but due to the lack of communication we were not able to do our best. All I could do at that moment was to ask you to send us an email as soon as possible so I could personally discuss the situation with the Hotel’s manager. I told you that unfortunately the bedbugs are a common problem everywhere in Paris. Most of the time they are transferred from a place to another as we take public transport and that makes the risk even higher in places frequently visited like a hotel. The phone call I made to your daughter’s room was a small act to reconcile her at first place, and as I had the same experience with bedbugs a while ago, to make sure she knows what to do next in order to get rid of them completely in case they were still in her stuff. Concerning the refund, we suggest you to contact directly Expedia since we cannot process any refund for bookings that come from an Agency. We are once again very sorry. The unexpected and unpleasant happenings are unfortunately impossible to avoid, but we always try our best to ensure a pleasant stay to our guests. Best Regards.

First trip to Paris

Pros: decor, location, staff
Cons: nothing, it is what it is
Location: everything you want to do and some you don't want to do but shop unless you're buying food, souvenirs, sex, sex toys.
This being my first trip to Paris, I wanted to stay in the most tourist friendly place possible. For my first trip there, it worked out okay. First things first....this area is the red light district of Paris. Meaning sex shops every 5 steps, strip clubs, brothels, a few dance clubs, bars bars and more bars amid tons of souvenir shops. Oh, and if you're planning to get to sleep before 3-6am...forget about it. The square below is a lively spot so I found. The hotel is very picturesque and has wonderful character. Nice bathrooms and interesting decor. My room did not have enough space for the furniture in it so I found myself climbing over things. I stayed in the Serge Gainsbourg room. GREAT balcony view. Stunning, morning and nighttime views. Around the corner from tons of fun fun fun! I think I will stay in Opera neighborhood next time, it suits my personality more. But it was a nice experience to stay in the thick of the fun for my first trip.
