Off the beaten track on the Rive Gauche.

Hotel was very welcoming, in a quiet, understated way - staff charming and helpful. Room quite basic (it could do with a lick of paint), but all the basics were there, and bathroom was very well equipped. Location surprisingly quiet, and very handy for metro. Only criticism - The basic standard price of a double room is listed as 270 euros, with breakfast extra! This strikes me as very expensive, so thank God for the deals offered by Hotels.com!

Ok hotel not far from everything

Hotel is a little run down and not that great. Bed is incredibly hard so didn't really get a good night sleep. The bath leaked. It wasn't originally our room though, we got there a little early and our room wasn't ready so they swapped so we could check in straight away, in hindsight we should of kept our original room as it may of been nicer. Was the first hotel I've stayed at that didn't have any tea/coffee facilities in the room.

Excellent location in the Latin Quarter.

This location is perfect for markets and small local restaurants. This is not the Hilton! There are no lifts and the stairwells are narrow and steep as with most of the city. Room is pleasant and comfortable. Bar across the street can get noisy, but you're in Paris!! Breakfast was nice with croissants, yogurt, fruit, cereals, eggs, juice, etc. Metro stop is a two minute walk. Front staff very helpful and opened the kitchen early so we could have breakfast before an early flight. Only cons were uncomfortable pillows and surly breakfast staff. Overall would recommend.

Very satisfied with stay

I needed a place to stay in the 5th arrondisement for my last night in Paris. With a lower budget, I had few options, and read a lot of disappointing reviews for "closet-size" rooms. Thankfully, this came up last minute, and I had a great experience! The room was a great size (I think I may have been upgraded to a double), the bathroom had a tub and shower (I was given a choice), and they were able to accommodate early check-in and very early check out. It was safe, clean, and comfortable for the night. And Jamal was super friendly to chat with at night! When considering my wish list and budget, this was a top notch option.

A comfortable short getaway hotel

We booked a two night stay and found excellent value in a small well run hotel. The room was comfortable, the staff were pleasant and helpful, check-in and out times were realistic. It was perfect for a sight-seeing break when we were out of the hotel most of the time with no need for facilities other than a comfortable room and simple breakfast. The Rue Mouffetard which was nearby was excellent for shopping and eating and was very pretty during our pre Xmas stay.

Good location

Great hotel in good location. Takes about 20/25m to walk to Notre Dame. Perfect base for a city break, metro about a 5 minute walk. The area itself is lovely with lots of bars/cafes.

This was an ideal location for us. Walking distance to a number of attractions. The hotel needs a little updating but excellent value and room size. Staff was extremely accommodating and helpful with requests. Breakfast buffet was quite good.

Modestly priced quality in heart of Latin Quarter

We stayed at this hotel for 13 nights in from late Sep to early Oct in 2015. I heartily recommend this hotel. The staff was universally polite and professional, and all we encountered spike good English. One night clerk called a local taxi company for us and reserved a car for a very early Sunday departure. We signed up for the daily breakfast with our Expedia reservation. Very nice space and good selection, although it didn't vary during our stay. The kitchen staff cleared tables quickly and replenished breakfast items and coffee as needed. I usually had the excellent granola with yoghurt and fruit, but tried the pancakes which you just popped into a toaster to heat. Real maple syrup and butter for a topping. Good coffee and tasty traditional pastries. Hotel room was small, as with most of Europe. Good bed, pillows a bit hard. Tight fit for us when I was using the laptop. Room safe was easy to use. Great insulated windows helped shut out the street sounds and the cheers and chatter from the happy pub directly across from our room. They usually shut down promptly at 11 or else midnight (or 1?) on the weekend. Location was terrific -- safe neighborhood, three blocks to Les Gobelins Metro stop (system is very easy to use). LOTS of great restaurants nearby, esp. up the nearby alley closed to cars. Even a Starbucks three blocks away if you want (US Starbucks cards do not work, however -- we put money on a French version).

An OK hotel

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our trip to France. Good location, clean but very small room, helpful and knowledgeable staff who spoke English very well. Internet worked well. But nothing special, and overpriced like the rest of the Paris hotels.

Great hotel, close to restaurants.

We enjoyed our stay at Hôtel Cardinal Rive Gauche. We had a little glitch where the hotel neglected to call a cab for our early morning trip to the train, but the employee on duty called right away and it had a happy ending. The room was small for three people, but I think that's very common in Paris. The air conditioning wasn't keeping up well a couple of warmer days. We were on the top floor and I'm sure that was the issue. We were able to open the windows at night for some breeze and it was still very quiet. The breakfast buffet was very sufficient and a good deal. The bathroom was small but very modern and in perfect condition.

Nice hotel close to the Latin Quarter

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at this nice hotel in Paris. Very close to two metro stations and walking distance from the Latin Quarter with its patisseries, cafes and restaurants. The room was clean and practical. We loved the bright sunny bathroom and the view to the street below. A great place to relax and undwind after a full day of walking and exploring the sites in Paris.

No climate control!

It's the end of July and it's hot in Paris. So being smart, we chose the Cardinal Rive Gauche, a hotel that claims to have climate control. But contrary to our expectations, we went to bed at 11pm at night with sweat dripping from our foreheads. There is are signs of air conditioning: a thermostat that we set to full blast and a vent from which relatively cool air flowed. But our top floor room had absorbed the strong afternoon sun, and the weak AC system could not make a dent in the heat. Of course, we complained to the nice woman at the front desk, and she said that the hotel's air conditioning system was indeed not strong ("forte"). She suggested that we open our windows later in the evening to let in the cool air. So we waited until 9 pm to open the windows only to be disappointed by a lack of cross-ventilation. The heat-loaded walls continued to bake us, and we awoke too tired to enjoy our second day in Paris. Other less serious problems: Two of our lights had bad bulbs, one night light and the overhead light. The bathtub drained very very slowly and so one was left standing in two inches of water after taking the shower. The person at the reception was very nice and eager to help. Unfortunately, this person had no help and was overwhelmed by the demands of the hotel's guests. We waited 15 minutes to check-in and, later, 15 minutes to ask a simple question.

I stayed in two different rooms a few days appart. Rooms are tight. In one the AC did not work. Breakfast is very good. The location is excellent- not far from metro (2 blocks), but walk to Louvre/Eiffel is not bad. Staff is nice and helpful.

Great Hotel Great Location

Second time we have stopped here, a really nice hotel in a great location, friendly staff, rooms are a little bit old but are clean. You are near 2 metro stations. There is a public car park nearby with security. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Interesting walks to the centre of Paris, we walked each day into Paris and just got the Metro back in the evening.
