I go to hostels like the Bowery Grand quite often because they are inexpensive and I'm only going to sleep there. I've been there several times before as well as others in the area. I am not looking for a fancy hotel just a place to sleep and keep my things. It of course is not like home but it doesn't hurt to see and live as many many other people do so I can appreciate my own blessings better. It is an opportunity to meet and live with people that are different from myself.

It is efficent, budget friendly and staff is very kind. It did smell like someone was smoking tobacco inside, and a neighboring guest was loud in general and difficult towards the staff. Maybe the staff was too nice in this situation... I did expect it to be loud, conscidering it is a hostle style crash pad, and thankfully brought ear plugs.

Bedbugs

Pros: Not a darn thing!
Cons: How about getting rid of the bloodsuckers before you rent any rooms. And if you are in room 99, sorry for you.
Location: Plenty of places nearby without bedbugs.
Found a bedbug on the pillow the morning of checkout. Guy at the desk said that he felt bad and they had sprayed before I checked in. Obviously, if they sprayed, they knew about it. Offered to move me to another room even though checkout was an hour away.

The worst hotel in which I have ever stayed

Pros: The shared bathrooms were completely private, with bath (some), shower, toilet and sink. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful.
Cons: Everything.
Location: Close to Chinatown and Little Italy, also within easy walking distance of the subway.
Having read the hotel reviews before my stay, and having had previous bad experiences in NYC hotels, I did not expect much from the Bowery Grand. And yet I was still shocked at how awful it was. I have been in changing rooms larger than the rooms at this hotel. My room was large enough to accommodate a twin bed and tiny dresser and that was it. I barely fit in the gap between the bed and the wall, and I'm a size 2. Had the door not opened into the passage it would not have fit in the room. I could hear every single sound from the rooms next to and above me. The bed was covered with a fitted sheet - no top sheet for protection from the single blanket that had obviously not been washed since before I was born. The only towel that was provided had palm-sized holes in it. It really was the worst hotel in which I have ever stayed, and I have traveled to some of the poorest countries in Africa.
