"I stayed with my dog in June for one night. It was a wonderful time and I will stay again soon! Staff were so accommodating with my large, overwhelmed dog (details below in case you're invested). I was welcomed very warmly and given a ton of information. Even though I arrived in a heatwave, looking as though I'd been dragged through every thicket in Scotland, I was able to enjoy a delicious lunch. My dog stayed at my feet with a bowl of water. After lunch, I could check in. It was a dog friendly room, which to my delight was spotless and very pleasant, but not so recently refurbished that I needed to be worried about dog-related wear and tear. Other rooms at the property were more recently redone. The pool beckoned, but I was too tired, so I just took the hound for a stroll and snoozed til dinner. Dinner was wonderful. I have a couple of dietary requirements, which were catered for easily. The staff were attentive and fun without being intrusive. The next morning, I took the dog out before breakfast but got downstairs and realised I forgot poo bags. Again, reception were so helpful! Breakfast was lovely and again they had stuff that I could enjoy. Checking out was easy. The location is so good that I was tempted to explore more locally but had to get home on this occasion. Dog: A 5yo dobie, I got her 2 years ago 15kg overweight & scared. Healthy now, This was her first holiday so it was a lot for her. She was good but barked a bit. Everyone was so kind <3"

"The Abbey Residence has a rooming house feel. We had a spacious room with large but dated ensuite. The walls could use a lick of paint, but there were no real issues with the room. Wifi was good and our room had a good sized Roku based smart TV with lots of streaming options. Parking in central Edinburgh is hard so leave your car at the Abbey Residence and catch the bus into town from the bus stop just across the road. It’s no high end hotel, but our room was clean and comfortable with good wardrobe and desk space. The staff were friendly and helpful. A local supermarket was just across the road if you need any ancillary items. There’s some traffic noise from the adjacent streets, but not enough to stop us from getting a good night’s sleep on the large soft bed. Overall a much more pleasant experience than you’d expect for the price point. Highly recommended for those wanting good value."
