State Plaza Hotel
"This hotel is located in the heart of downtown DC, walking distance to the "National Mall" (on a not-so-hot day). Most of the Smithsonian museums are within 30-40 minute walk, or a short Uber ride. The hotel occupies two adjacent older builds but they are upgraded with modern amenities, elevators, air conditioning, etc. There is a "letter chute" beside the elevator which is quite "retro"; not sure if it is still in use, but interesting to see. The facility is clean and well maintained. We booked a room with two queen beds; to our surprise, there is also a kitchen which came in handy because the hotel does not serve free breakfast; the unit's layout is unconventional, perhaps due to the age of the building; but it was functional. No complaints. The only "challenge" we had was parking. We arrived at noon and the hotel staff was nice enough to allow us to check in. As a result of the early arrival, we managed to grab one of 24 parking spots this hotel has; the cost was USD $50/day; the most I had paid for parking by a large margin. The alternative would be to park in a nearby public parking garage (5 minute walk) at about $25/day. I am sure the parking "situation" is not unique for this hotel in downtown DC. Other than that, everything was great! Would return again in the future (but not on a 104F day)."
