Hotel with rude staff

The room was nice until I sat on the couch. It had a bad odor. Took things into my own hands went next door as there is a 24 hr CVS. Got febreeze & air freshener. Took care of the problem but obviously sprayed to much.Housekeeping came by with 2 bottles of hot water & shortly after that security was at the door wanting to know if we were smoking. We assume they thought we were trying to mask smoke when in fact we were masking the odor on the couch! We didn't put it all together until later. When I tried to talk to them about it they were rude & laughed when we walked off. The next day after sightseeing we get back to our room @4:30 & it had not been cleaned when we ask about it they ask if we had the do not disturb sign on the door . We didn't. Tried to have a drink at the Garden Cafe which is part of the hotel while we waited on our room. No Corona beer & no margarita salt. More concerned if we were guest there. Waited outside for an hour for our room to be cleaned. The night before the Garden Cafe was out of fish & chips. They did have them the next night....big disappointment anyway. I will say the king size bed was very comfortable. They did call us & as to talk about the review I had left on their Facebook page. They didn't seem to concerned about talking to me when I tried the 1st time so I didn't see any need wasting my time. Especially after the way they acted when I tried to speak with them the first time! I will say the king size bed was very comfortable.

Fantastic location

Fantastic location for sightseeing in DC and for visiting GWU. The hotel itself was nice--we had a room with a king bed, small kitchenette and table, desk, dressing area and bathroom. Large room with plenty of space. Restaurant has a nice outdoor shaded courtyard.

Great location, comfortable room.

Pros: Location, staff, and comfort.
Cons: The elevators were pretty slow and the water in the tub didn't drain as fast as it needed to in order avoid backing up while using the shower.
Location: Close to most of the main attractions and also to the subway.
Located just about 10 minutes walk from Metro, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and White House (depending on which direction you choose to go. Right beside The George Washington University. The staff was helpful with all requests and the room was very comfortable.

Nice hotel close to the Mall/Lincoln Memorial

Pros: Just about everything, but the staff really makes it for me. Also it is reasonably priced comparatively speaking
Cons: A choice of pillow density. Their pillows are quite soft and I prefer a firmer one. I'm not a big fan of comforters instead of blankets...a bit too he
Location: George Washington University, nearby reasonably priced restaurants, the Mall, 6 blocks to the metro.
I have stayed here in the past and was very satisfied. This visit I was very impressed with the staff. Whatever I needed they were there for me. Very personable, professional, and friendly. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. It is away from downtown so is quiet. It is a short 4-5 block walk downhill to the Lincoln Memorial end of the Mall. I was there to re-visit the Vietnam Memorial...the Wall. I would stay there again any time I am in D.C.

Cut Above Hotel

Pros: Everything - really.
Location: Federal offices, White House, war memorials, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Kennedy Center, George Washington U all within walking distance.
This was our first visit to D.C. and the hotel has a great location for getting around. Its a short walk to the hop-on-hop-off buses, the Metro, the White House, the National Mall, and many of the must-see sites and monuments. The hotel mini-suite was comfortable and very clean, the entire staff was friendly and cordial, and the hotel restaurant was excellent, there is a fitness center for guest - nothing negative about the State Plaza. The only things missing, which is not the fault of the hotel, was a grocery store (a nearby drug store and convenience store offer some items) and the lack of good restaurants within walking distance in the evening. We would recommend the State Plaza to anyone looking for comfort and a hotel that is a cut-above. Should we return to D.C., we would definitely consider the State Plaza.

great location great hotel

Easy to walk to mall or metro. Wonderful room. So clean and comfortable. Only drawback is that the ad mentioned the room had a fridge and it didn't.

Sweet Little Hotel in Foggy Bottom

My granddaughter and I stayed at State Plaza Hotel for 3 nights during our March 2017 sightseeing trip to DC. The hotel has a very good location for public transportation. It's near the corner of Virginia and E St., which has a Metrobus stop and is only 4 blocks to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro Station. We were able to easily reach all of the National Mall, monuments, museums, Chinatown, etc. from there. It is near the heart of the George Washington University Campus (interesting for my teen granddaughter to see) and the GWU Hospital. The only downside for some might be the frequent ambulance and police sirens because of the location but it didn't disturb our rest. Next door is a liquor store and a 24-hour CVS. Nearby there's a public-accessible GWU student area, with a Dunkin Donuts, Baskin Robbins, Pita Pit and Potbelly Sandwiches. The hotel has a Garden Café which is very nice. They offered large salads, fish & chips, chicken quesadilla, pasta Bolognese, crab cakes and more. Good quality, fresh tastes, nice atmosphere, quiet. They had a bar and a selection of dinner wines. Prices were neither inexpensive nor extravagant for DC. While the building itself seems older, our bathroom/room was very bright and clean, modern, tastefully decorated and had a very comfortable bed. Modern elevator, if somewhat slow. Bottled water is delivered to your room each evening with a note wishing you a peaceful rest. Nice touch. Great staff. Would be very happy to stay here again.

I love this place.

Pros: Everything
Cons: nope
Location: Perfect for Kennedy Center and State Department.
Originally booked because it used to be the apartment building I lived in 50 years ago as a student at GWU. Everything looked familiar. Nice efficiency with workable kitchen. Clean friendly staff. Short walk to two Metro stations.
