Flights To Cusco
Flights to Cusco land at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ), less than a 10-minute drive from the city center. Nestled in the Andes Mountains in southeastern Peru, Cusco was the ancient capital of the Incan Empire—one of the major pre-Columbian civilizations in the Americas. It was conquered by the Spanish explorer Pizarro in 1533. This Spanish influence is still evident today in the beautiful colonial architecture. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cusco is an entrancing blend of ancient Incan history Spanish culture that make it definitely worth a visit (or two).
Transportation from CUZ
With CUZ located so close to the center of Cusco, travelers coming in on Cusco flights have easy access to a broad range of Cusco hotels just outside the airport and in the city itself. Any of these will put you in a good location from which to explore the region's attractions. Need a lift downtown to the beautiful historical center of Cusco? When you exit the airport, you'll see buses stopping on your right. Locally, these are referred to as combis. Many of these pass through downtown Cusco; just check with the drivers to find out where they're headed. Cabs are also fairly inexpensive, especially as it's such a short trip to town. It's also possible to rent a car if you want more freedom of mobility to visit ruins during your trip to Peru. Make your first stop the storied Plaza de Armas, where you can admire several beautiful old churches and revel in the history that took place just under your feet. Cusco is also the gateway to Machu Picchu, the world-famous Incan ruins, which are considered by many as one the great Wonders of the World.
