The food choices, for being in Mexico, I was hoping for an authentic Mexican food, instead there was everything but. And the food out by the pool was basic hotdog and hamburgers, I can get that where I live, when I go on vacation to another country I want the local food. The room; we could not close the blackout curtains all the way only the sheer Curtin, so it was so bright and also so loud in the room, closing the door didn’t even muffle the noise that was outside

My husband and I just got back last night from staying at Riu Vallarta. All in all, we loved it! Only one issue, really. The food was awful. No matter what restaurant you went to. But the service was great. Bartenders were amazing! All the staff was awesome. The rooms were so-so. The beds didn’t come with a comforter or duvet or anything but we had an extra blanket in the closet so whatever.

Housekeeping staff were very pleasant and our room was very clean. When we called customer service to replace the bottled water and coffee packages, they were delivered quite promptly. All the dining room and bar servers went out of their way to ensure we had anything we needed. On the downside, this was our second visit to this hotel and both times there were lots of issues with the elevators. We were able to use the stairs, but other people experienced long waits for service. Also, the recorded music that plays in the lobby bar area isn't very pleasant. Rather than the constant disco beat, maybe a variety of genres might be nice.

As far as assigned room condition and service, it was top notch. Our previous stay was in a much more desirable room overlooking the courtyard where we could sit on the balcony and enjoy hearing the music at a pleasant volume. This room overlooked a back alley and had no other attractive qualities.

The room is clean, most rooms have ocean views. We enjoyed the nightly entertainments. These are informal, interactive and fun. The staff is helpful. The checkout is fast too. However I found food offerings are limited. The pool food is only hot dog and hamburgers(with starchy meat patties). There is no tacos or wings. The breakfast buffets are nice and adequate but lunch and dinner offerings are lackluster. There are only buffets for lunch and there are usually only two à la carts restaurants open every night. The food in these restaurants are also disappointing, steak we had were of cheap cut and many dishes were too salty. There were also not enough local food representations, which is very disappointing for the area.

Wouldn't come back. Everything was very subpar. Rooms were not very nice. Biggest complaint was you couldn't get into the restaurants unless you lined up half an hour to an hour before they open to then be told a 2-3 hour wait still. Not how you want to spend your vacation standing in line. Wish they just did reservations like every other resort. At least you can plan your day accordingly with children. Buffet was all we could eat and that got old really fast. Not good food at all :( was very disappointed :(

The staff was absolutely amazing and easily the best part of this resort. Friendly helpful and genuinely wonderful people. Unfortunately that is where the positives mostly end. There is no ATM on site which is inconvenient for an all inclusive resort. The specialty restaurants fill up almost immediately each day so we rarely got the chance to eat at them. Because of that the buffet was our main option most days. It was fine but eating there over and over gets old quickly. The on site store also raised cigarette prices over the weekend which felt a little sketchy and left a bad taste. I have stayed at other Riu properties in Puerto Vallarta and had much better experiences. This one just did not live up to expectations and I probably would not return.

Room was clean, staff was great, food was good. Life bands are fun, but need better varieties, the main mic was too low for a singer. Kids activities are way too loud. Times where the kids activities and bar at the beach where so loud i had to move.

The room was clean and was done promptly every time. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Our friends did have a roach in their room, so that was unfortunate. The Italian restaurant was amazing but the steak house and buffet were mediocre.
