6/10 Aceptable

This “charming” apartment is in a truly historic Paris building, conveniently located in the Latin Quarter (but, quite spacious and mostly clean. It was so easy to get anywhere by foot or Metro. That said, it was amazingly spartan (don’t even expect salt & pepper in the kitchen or a soap bar in the bathroom) and lacking in basic comforts. Read the other reviews. Unfortunately, during our stay we discovered the stove wasn’t operational (the gas line didn’t seem to be hooked up) , it was unclear how to operate the radiators on some cool evenings, and light bulbs in fixtures were missing or broken. It felt really neglected. The apartment managers were actually extremely accommodating and responsive when I contacted them about these issues, but who wants to deal with having them make repairs when you’re out and about all day in one of the greatest cities in Europe? So forget trying to cook eggs with your croissants in the AM. Additionally, prepare to walk up 4 flights of stairs, and to enter through a rather grimy courtyard shared by the restaurants on the ground floor of the building. I don’t like to give poor reviews, but know what you’re getting into if the charming beamed ceilings and historic character of this apartment are an attraction…
