A place to lay your head

If quality is not a requirement and you just need a place to lay your head this is your hotel. The photos on the hotel website are deceptive giving the perception of a really nice updated hotel when it is not. The bed sucked. The walls and ceilings/floors are paper thin as you can hear your neighbors. The positives are there is direct beach access and the customer service was outstanding.

Perfect location!

I paid extra for a room with a balcony for my 4 night stay. Upon arrival at midnight was given a room that overlooked parking lot with no balcony, furniture was very worn but the worst of it was that it smelled of urine. Too late to move as they were full - so opened windows. Next day was given appropriate room, comfortable & could look out at beach on my balcony. They need to replace worn draperies, paint, shampoo carpets, etc, and the whole experience would have been a 10!

room location, next to yellow construction tape, n

Pros: good restaurant next to it
Cons: very small bathroom, showerhead is low for someone who is tall. no hot water, only warm and cold
Location: great walking path
would of liked to be on second floor or higher with somewhat of an ocean view

I am sorry to read of your dissatisfaction. I have not heard of this complaint about the thinness of the walls before. I am sorry you experienced noise during your stay and the hotel was not as you expected.

Nice Hotel Right on the Beach

This was my second trip to San Diego and I tried a different hotel this time. Totally enjoyed the Surfer Beach. The price was amazing, the staff were friendly, the location was amazing and we had a great stay. Yes, the rooms are smaller and older, and it's not fancy, but come ON, you are right on the beach. I had a fantastic stay here and would definitely stay again.

Last Minute

We were 1 1/2 hrs away that morning and booked it through travelocity last minute for that same evening. I would recommend this hotel as long as the people don't mind an old building that needs updating. We did have to deal with some bugs coming through the bathroom light, harmless bugs but bugs nonetheless. Great location to the beach, restaurants and the nightlife. We enjoyed sleeping with the glass door open listening to the ocean waves, 2nd - 4th floors have private balconies.

Dirty Beach Hotel

Pros: The bed was big and comfortable. It was on the beach.
Cons: The cleaning of the room, the layout of the room, add more of a kitchen (like a microwave), add AC, and housecleaning.
Location: Seaworld if you buy bus fares. grocery stores.
Very Disappointing... My wife and I just stayed at the Surfer Beach Hotel in San Diego, CA. We purchased through Travelocity. The guest reviews showed a 3.5/5 rating while the hotel itself showed a 3 star hotel. However, we were not pleased with the room. There was no air conditioning in the room, which is unacceptable for a 3 star hotel. The room was very warm and we only had a fan to keep us cool. Each wooden furniture (dresser, night stands, and bathroom sink) were very sticky, dusty, and dirty. Although it said that the room has a kitchen, there was no microwave. There was only a mini fridge with no freezer. There was nothing else that would qualify as a kitchen. The TV was older and had no HDMI outlet or any other means of connecting to a computer. Room service was poor because housekeeping came at inconvenient times and two times forgot to return later. We had to call the front desk to remind them once. It said it was a smoke free facility, but guests would smoke on the balconies and the odor would enter our room. We would rate this hotel as a 1 star hotel and were very disappointed in the room given.
