It would have been a five star IF they had hot water in the shower. Lovely property, beautiful setting, renovated room and bathroom, good value.

Very nice hotel, comfortable bed, clean rooms. Good restaurant and bar. Strange sound like a fan somewhere in the building could be heard all night. Not so loud that you couldn’t sleep, just a little irritation in an otherwise excellent stay.

Great Little Place

We were in town for a cross country meet and wanted to stay near by the night before. The Independent is a fun, boutique style hotel in a quaint little town that we could walk to most things for dinner, dessert and a nightcap. I would stay again if I am in need of a place to stay in the area.

Disappointed

Was disappointed with this stay. Chose this hotel because it was a quiet area to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Intended to meet friends who lived nearby for dinner at the hotel. Called weeks before the event ti make sure the restaurant would be open and was told it would be. However the day of our stay I received a text saying the restaurant was closed to the public for an event. We had limited other options. We also ordered a charcuterie board from the hotel and it was a 2 out of 5 stars. Cheese tasted old, the toast tasted stale. The free breakfast had rubbery eggs. The staff didn’t put out jelly or jam but got some out when asked. They cleaned up the breakfast area before the time was up to get food. It was clean and comfortable but not what I had hoped for when I booked.

Good hotel

We stay here annually as we visit relatives in the area. The hotel is always clean and the front staff welcoming. Our only complaint is that the included breakfast quality has declined every year. This year I couldn’t even find someone to ask for a glass of water since none was available in the dining room. Ended up going into the lobby to get one. Will still stay here when we visit though.

I have been staying here a few times over the last 3 months and love it. Now I know why some celebrities live in hotels for years. This place is way too classy for little old Independence, OR. This is a big city, modern, and well thought out hotel. And the staff has become like family. Very clean, the food is amazing, and the views are charming. I've stayed at other hotels like this that are $500.00 to $800.00 a night and still don't offer as much as this does. I think the reason for the lower price is because the location is 12 miles from the nearest big city (Salem). Do yourself a favor and drive the distance. You won't be disappointed.

While heading south, we chose this property for loccation near Salem and onsite EV charger. Not disappointed at all -- very comfortable room, easy check in, easy walk to a choice of restaurants on charming main street of Independence. Breakfast was quite satisfactory as well!
