Amazing staff! It was my first time in Brazil and I was travelling alone, I did not know what to expect. It was an unforgettable experience. On their time off, they showed me around and gave me ideas on where to go. I felt welcomed the minute I walked in. The location is perfect! Close to the beaches , supermarkets and metro station. There’s a pool, a bar area ,kitchen. The rooms are air-conditioned. Breakfast is not included but is a fair price !Definitely recommend this hostel!

Excellent place to stay. The hostel itself was good, but it was particularly the staff that made it an incredible experience. I feel it would be a great choice, whether travelling alone of as a couple (as we were).

Good times!
Manuela, Brian, and pretty much everyone there was wonderful. Staff was very helpful and sweet. Place is about 5 blocks from Copacabana beach (great location for very little money). It has wifi. We had a private room with a double bed in a private bathroom, it was a great and convenient accommodation. It is the equivalent of 1 to 1.5 stars motel place in Southern CA. We bought a package which included breakfast, it is basic but good, coffee, juice, breads, sweet bread, ham, eggs, fruit, and a panini maker. It's basic but helpful to start you off in the mornings. AC worked well. Linen was old, but luckily we had brought our own sheets and pillow cases anticipating that. It made for a better stay. Bed is comfortable. No theft problems in private room. Housekeeping staff is friendly and accommodating. If you want comfort and higher stars, this is not your place. We went during Carnaval and prices were extraordinarily expensive in Copacabana, so we had no choice, but had a wonderful time nevertheless. We are used to 5 star resorts, even so, we made do and had a great time. Dormitories look like they have no AC, and are not comfortable, but we're not really sure since it was a removed area from our room. If you arrive during the day take metro (subway) from airport, get off on Sierra Campos station, and take a 3 dollar taxi to hostel from metro station (less than 3 minutes from station). Have fun!

Nice hostel for a cheap price
The staff at Bamboo Rio were very friendly and welcoming. For the price it is a great place to stay. You meet alot of people from different countries. The caipirinha special is awesome every night. It is about 3 blocks to the beach. Would definitely recommend.

Paradise lounging with Dumpy sleeping
Manuela and Carol receptionists are wonderful to wake and end day with...dipping pool is nice to have...beautiful mountainside breakfast area...all balanced out by a devotion to horrible almost cave den-like sleeping arrangements, but though, you can still sleep like a baby, because they give you 30 minutes of free caparinhas.

Beautiful, helpful reception girls. Guys not.
The Bamboo Rio Hostel has an interesting opposites contrast for each of the areas of features: The day girls, Manuals and Caroline are real sweet smiling Brazilieras as one hopes to see when coming from around the world and looks at tourist books. And the manager woman is great. The evening bartender in October 2016 is very laid back and has amazing English fluency and local knowledge happy to share. The lobby area, with tiny dipping pool, and leading up to bar/breakfast area has outstanding decoration and natural beauty (the back wall of breakfast area is a mountain) If you dont speak portuguese, the night shift guy might ignore you for ten minutes while you're standing in front of him, while he chats to friends on phone... the receptionist, BALTAZAR has a local hosteler's reputation for being a bit of a nightmare to deal with, and turns away many potential guests...he can be very aggressive with dealings/speaking and quite unpleasant to deal with for weary nervous travelers. You have to arrive early and if he is there, come back later and check in when the afternoon girl is there. The beds are a bit inexcusably disgusting. But they offer an hour of free caparinhas in the bar most nights so you end up having a great nightnights sleep...Staff is very cautious about theft, as if it is regular problem.
