Pleasant setting

It's not the Waldorf Astoria but that wasn't the intent. If you're looking for a clean friendly stay in a beautifully walkable setting this is it. Apart from the somewhat dated accomodations (hey, it was a tad rustic but it evoked pleasant feelings of nostalgia for this 60-something boomer) I couldn't have asked for a quiter room nestled on the shore of a beautiful lake (well, reservoir) and park. Plus we had the added benefit of being there outside of the tourist season. I'll be back.

The view is beautiful but the room was very dated. I won't return to this property again. No amenities, old building (look and feel). High step into the room without a hand rail and one key.

The service was exceptional! Deb was wonderful. The “cabins” however were tired, and had an odd smell to them. I will say they were clean. A couple of hooks in the bathroom would be a nice addition.

The room smelled like air freshener. Once the air freshener wore off, you could smell extension in the room. There wasn’t any exhaust fan in the bathroom so you took a shower. It was really steamy and hot and when you use the bathroom all the older we go out into the bedroom, it was not very clean

While place is spacious, it has not been renovated in over 50 years. We chose the place because we thought there would be other children around, but it was a bit of a ghost town by mid-August. The establishment does not recycle even though Rapid City has a recycling program.

Motel style rooms are severely lacking.

This is regarding the Motel Style rooms, not cabins. They feel old and are grimmy. The walls are thin, and you can hear everything, that means the baby next door to the family rearranging chairs to get comfy to the young couple next door, if you know what I mean. Also, everything is dated and old. The toilet was loud when flushed, and for some reason, there was a hot water heater in our room that ran every time anyone around us used water. The fridge and freezer were easily from the 1970s, and overall, it seems like a cheap motel, not some place you want to take your family for a weekend away.
