Wild Horse Pass visit May 2017

Pros: The historical recreation of the Gila River
Cons: More dining options on property
Location: Bondurant racing school, easy drive to old Phoenix and Superstition Mountains, local restaurants.
The hotel is outstanding. My wife enjoyed a relaxing week while I raced cars at Bondurant. The location to the venue was perfect and the property is outstanding. We really enjoyed the way the property recreated the Gila River and created a relaxing environment pool-side. We even completed our Looney Toons quest by seeing a wild coyote AND road runner!

Lovely hotel in a peaceful setting

This hotel was amazing. It was a couple miles from the main road and had a very quiet and tranquil environment. Food in the restaurants was very good, nice big pool area and it had about a 2 mile nature walking trail. Very clean and the staff was friendly. Close to a casino.

Experience the Sanctuary

My daughter and I wanted a Spa experience with sunshine and a lot of outdoor possibilities and at this time of year, Arizona has wonderful weather. We picked the Sheraton at Wild Horse Pass and loved our stay. It's not the most posh place we've stayed at, but definitely one we would return to. Three reasons, first, nature. The hotel, located on the Gila River Indian Community lands near Aji Mountain is a sanctuary for the Pima and Maricopa peoples. A river runs through the hotel properties with a river walk that's perfect in the cool mornings or evenings. As we drove in a coyote trotted by, a Blue Heron was fishing in the river, and rabbits, birds, and wildlife were abundant. There is even a herd of 1,500 wild horses and a stable nearby where you can saddle up and take a ride out to see these magnificent creature in the wild. Second, the amenities. Restaurants, including a five-star dining room. Gift shops, a golf course, a water slide and lovely pool, storytellers in the evenings around a campfire . . . the Aji Spa & Salon. I had a healing treatment called Thoachta from the tribal healer, Belen Stoneman, that was an outstanding experience. The Spa is gorgeous with two pool areas, indigenous healthy food, and their own line of products based upon heritage healing plants and herbs. Third, the town of Chandler is nearby as well as shopping in the huge outlet mall about five minutes from the hotel. Highly recommend.

Watch for hidden charges

Cons: Disclose all hidden charges
At time of registration at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass I was informed of a $25.00 surcharge for staying at the Hotel, which was a surprise to me. I questioned if this was a one time charge and what does $25.00 cover, " it's a charge for staying at the resort. Once I checked out of the Sheraton I was charged $25.00 per day for staying at this hotel. I never used the gym, spa or other amenities, if asked if I thought the additional $75.00 on top of the actual daily rate was worth the stay..NO!

Anniversary Weekend

Pros: The room was beautiful, I loved the walking trails all around the resort property.
Cons: I know it's Arizona...but we came on the coldest weekend!!! Would have loved for the main pool to have been heated! It's so petty and selfish!!!
Location: I was surprised that Phoenix is so easy to get around, we went the Desert Botanic Gardens.
We had such an amazing time at this resort. The resort was beautiful, great food, great spa, we had a nice relaxing weekend!

In a remote location

Pros: It was quiet. The grounds were beautiful. All the staff was helpful, friendly, and made our stay perfect.
Cons: I am a clean freak. Carpets need to be cleaned, but I have this complaint about most hotels/resorts. This is a detail that is often overlooked.
Location: Well, we did have to drive. We visited the Rosson Mansion, attended a Coyote Hockey game, the Pima Air Museum, a ghost town, the Premium Outlets.
The location had advantages and disadvantages. When we went to an event or attraction it was quite a drive. However, it was quiet and beautiful. The sunsets from our room were outstanding to watch. The water slide was a bonus. And believe it or not, it was middle aged ladies that took advantage of it! The staff was OUTSTANDING.

Loved it!

The hotel was very clean. Staff was friendly. The views were beautiful. The pool was nice. If you don't valet (which costs way too much), the walk from the self park to the lobby/rooms was a little rough. Having to pay extra for the fridge seemed a bit ridiculous to me. I saw a few people with an ice chest which seems like an east alternative.

Good and Bad

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: Nothing close
This hotel is a resort that is used for many conventions and meetings but we were just there in the area to spend four nights on vacation. My sister had stayed here several years ago and had given it a high rating. The price was OK, but I felt the staff just did not give the extra service. When we checked in the staff neglected to give us adequate instructions on where we could park our car. Even low end motels give a map with clear directions. The grounds are sprawling so finding the correct parking place and doors to enter is hard to find. Since there is no security and it is so dark out in the Arizona desert it was not comfortable traveling in and out of the hotel grounds at night. Light fixtures and the safe batteries in the room were out. When we asked for additional tissue and kleenex one morning we were questioned like we were trying to sneak out of the place with extra supplies by the maid. I give high marks to the bar staff. We had missed happy hour and our hosts who live here in the area told the staff. We were all given complimentary drinks and snacks. That was very much appreciated.
