Privacy and peace in the Kaibab National Forest — yet only 20 minutes from Flagstaff and Williams. Just over an hour to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. This is a genuinely great home base for exploring Northern Arizona, and guests keep coming back for it.
• The location: Surrounded by ponderosa pines on three sides at 7,500 ft, 5 miles north of I-40 — the forest is literally your backyard and both side yards. There are neighbors across the street, but it's a quiet, rural area and you'll forget they're there. Trailhead starts at the front door. Wildlife wanders through regularly — deer in the yard is pretty normal here. Quick access to Grand Canyon, Sedona, Slide Rock, Williams, Polar Express, North Pole Experience, Grand Canyon Railway, and Bearizona.
• The house: 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps up to 12. King master downstairs with jetted tub + standing shower. Also downstairs: the Rt 66 Room — a cozy hangout space with a TV, hundreds of DVDs, board games, a small table, and a queen futon, great for movie nights or extra sleeping space. Upstairs: the Red Bedroom (queen, built-in library full of books), the Twin Room (2 separate twin beds + a twin trundle), and the Bunk Room — which has a twin over double bunk AND a secret loft hidden inside the closet. Kids find it every time. *Base rate covers up to 8 guests — a small per-person fee applies for guests 9–12.*
• The great room: Open to the kitchen, with a Vermont Castings wood stove, a spinning armchair that faces either the couch or the fire (guests always mention it), and doors that open to the back deck. The sun room off the main living area has rocking chairs and a few toys for little ones.
• The kitchen: Fully stocked with newer appliances and granite countertops. Dining table seats 8+, with views out the back window into the trees — you'll likely see wildlife while you're eating breakfast.
• Outside: Wrap-around porch, a big back deck with BBQ and dining table, and a hand-built picnic table made from the trees that were cut to build the house. Plus hammock, swing, slack line, frisbee golf, and horseshoes. The San Francisco Peaks are visible on a clear day.
• Family extras: Queen air mattress, pack n play, and crib mattress available for little ones.
