"First time in Chicago"
The hotel is located in downtown, walking distance to many attractions. We walked to the bean, willis tower, and magnificent mile. The subway station is very close as well so we took the train from O'Hare and we only walked a few blocks. There are many good restaurants around it, so with all this being said location is perfect. Room is a good size, clean, and the staff is very courteous. You also have bottled water strategically located in the hallways and a restaurant in the hotel. I would return to this hotel without any doubt especially because the rates are great.

"loved the hotel itself, but staff was mediocre."
The hotel's facilities and ambiance are wonderful! However, the staff is all young and uninterested in being very accommodating, a bit arrogant as well. One exception being the the valet staff, who were very helpful.

"Visiting new grandchild"
Publics Hotel offered a nice room at a great price. Excellent staff help. Good coffee bar reasonably priced considering the free refills all day. Within walking distance to public transportation. Hotel restaurant was over priced for our budget, but other restaurants in the area were great.

"Nice location."
The Essex Inn is located on South Michigan Ave. thus within easy walking distance to the museums and the aquarium. The Bean and parks along Lake Shore Drive are also worth the time to experience. Thus as is in any real estate - location, location, location is the key. The staff at the Essex were excellent and very helpful. Parking in the area and at the hotel is very convenient. The room rates were very reasonable.

"Better than expected"
This hotel exceeded our expectations: the room was big, clean, and in almost new condition; had a very nice breakfast with many choices (bacon, egg, sausage was offered each morning, I had no problems getting waffles even when there were hardly any tables empty, oatmeal, pastries, fruits, hard boiled eggs, bagels etc.) The staff was very helpful and kind. The location of the hotel was convenient: Willis Tower is the closest sight, about 4 minutes away. This is also where one can get on the Hop-On Hop-Off bus. Rentable bikes are even closer. Michigan Avenue is in walking distance (10 min) as is the Beam. The Navy Pier is a little farther but we still walked there. Trump Tower is about 12 minutes away. Many restaurants around there. The only one thing that we would have liked to see: minibar in the fridge. We had a fridge, coffee station & a microwave but nothing in the fridge.

"Classic, historic hotel with a modern feel"
Great hotel in a historic building in downtown Chicago on Michigan Ave. Just enough modern touches to compliment the limestone and brass details in the lobby and the elevator areas. Room was a tower king (34th floor) with an unbelievable view of the lake, Michigan Avenue and downtown. Dark oak raised panels, plaster inset ceiling (not original but a good copy), updated marble and granite bath with a huge window over the tub (with a shade of course). Room was clean, with all the amenities except strangely no refrigerator, and a hotel tablet that was nice but was uncharged when we arrived. Tower rooms only have 3 rooms per floor, with a nice small area in between including an interesting wrought iron gate, so there is very little room traffic in and out, stayed during the week, but heard no one our entire 3 day stay. One note about this room was that the 3 large windows had shades and no curtains, so ambient light was always present. I enjoyed the glow of the city at night, but if you need complete darkness to sleep, this might not be the room for you. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Ate in the Jamaican restaurant one night, good food and interesting live band. Overall a great experience and would return.

"Great location"
Our stay at the Whitehall was perfect. The location just off Michigan was great, easy walk to shopping and restaurants. We love exploring a city on foot and really enjoyed walking around Chicago. The hotel room was spacious and very clean and we even had a great view looking East at Michigan Ave. and the John Hancock building. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Would recommend this hotel highly.
