  • Airport security staff will ask to see your boarding pass and passport upon arrival. Tuck them away in a convenient place, so they’re all ready for inspection.
  • Take off your shoes, belt and jewellery before approaching the airport security checkpoint. Items like these are not allowed to pass through the body scanner.
  • Make sure your phone, laptop and other electronic devices are easy to reach. These items need to be sent through the X-ray machine in separate tubs.
  • When it comes to traveling with gels and liquids, each passenger is allowed a quart-sized clear resealable bag to transport containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
  • Give some thought to the type of footwear you want to travel in. Slippers are great because they’re a piece of cake to take off for the airport security checks. Try wearing a pair on your next journey!
  • The list of non-permissible items is forever updating. Read over your carrier’s website to learn about what is not allowed on board their aircraft.

How to find cheap flights

What is the best day to buy a plane ticket?

Airfares offered on Friday tend to be the cheapest, according to flight demand on Travelocity.ca in 2021. Purchasing your airfares on a Thursday or Saturday can also provide better value, however our advice if you’re looking to save money is to avoid booking on a Wednesday or Sunday. Our data shows that those two days have the highest ticket values on average, so keep this in mind if you’re browsing flight deals.

What are the cheapest days to fly?

Frequent travellers may already know this, earlier in the week is often the cheapest time to fly. Flights departing on a Monday are the cheapest of the week. Since flights towards the middle of the week tend to be more popular, this causes the prices to rise. This is why, on average, airfares booked on Travelocity.ca in 2021 were most expensive for Wednesday departures.

How far in advance can you book a flight?

Here’s the deal: It is typically possible to start comparing international airfares on Travelocity.ca up to 12 months in advance. However, it does depend on the carrier as not all airlines release their prices that far out. According to our 2021 flight demand trends, last minute planners can still bag a bargain with some of the cheapest fares appearing 2-4 weeks prior to their travel dates.

*According to flight demand on Travelocity.ca from January to December 2021. Savings are subject to change and may vary depending on selections made.

Flights To Shanghai

China’s “City by the Sea,” Shanghai offers adventures for every kind of traveler. The Huangpu River bisects the city: Puxi on the west side with its Ming palaces, and Pudong on the east with its impressive skyline. With a history dating back thousands of years, this mix of ancient and modern is sure to enchant. Grab one of the cheap tickets to Shanghai and maybe even a hotel near Pudong International Airport (PVG) to explore this city yourself.

Transportation From PVG

As sleek as its neighborhood namesake, PVG is a well-organized hub of transportation for the city; there is even a museum in Terminal 2. In a city as big as Shanghai, you are going to have no trouble finding something to do. The People’s Square—or the Green Lung of Shanghai—is a 140,000 square meter garden-style plaza that hosts a convention center, theater, and the city’s government buildings. A living history lesson, Yu Gardens is home to a 400-year-old Ming dynasty property that offers a quiet afternoon in an otherwise bustling metropolis. The Xintandi neighborhood bridges the centuries with historic buildings transformed into modern shops, restaurants, galleries, and bars. After you fly in, you have many options to get downtown, some of which can be included in your Shanghai vacation package. While taxis are the most convenient way to get around, rental cars are available and several different buses leave from the two airport terminals. If you want to start your Shanghai adventure right after touching down, take the Maglev train to Longyang Road transportation center at speeds closing in on 270 mph! For a safer rail trek into town, hop on the Shanghai Metro Line 2.
