How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Brussels
These practical tips about airport security checks will save you a lot of time and energy on your journey to Brussels:

  • Make sure you know the whereabouts of your travel ID and boarding pass. You don't want to hold up the queue when you're asked to produce them.
  • Remove your jewellery, belt and shoes before arriving at the security checkpoint. Items such as these are not permitted to pass through the body scanner.
  • Electronic items such as laptops, tablets and phones will need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Make sure they're within easy reach.
  • When you get to the security checkpoint, you'll be asked to put all creams, liquids and gels in a separate tub for scanning. Make sure they're all in containers smaller than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and sealed in a clear zip-lock bag.
  • Consider your choice of footwear. Slippers are awesome because they're easy to step out of when you're doing the airport security checks. Try wearing some on your next flight!
  • Put any pocketknives or other sharp items inside your checked luggage. Airport security won't allow these on the plane.

Catch a bus from Level 0, which is one floor below Arrivals. Many of the hotels near Brussels airport offer free shuttle services, and leave from the airport coach park on Level 0, Platform E. Once you're settled in your hotel, take a walk along one of the walking trails around the city. One of the must-sees is the Comic Strip Museum, where you'll view Tintin comics and learn about other European comic books. The Grand Place or central square of Brussels has a history that reaches back to the tenth century, and the fantastically ornate guildhalls make excellent photo opportunities.
