Gipsy Moth IV is a 53 ft (16 m) ketch that Sir Francis Chichester commissioned specifically to sail single-handed around the globe, racing against the times set by the clipper ships of the 19th century. The name, the fourth boat in his series, all named Gipsy Moth, originated from the de Havilland Gipsy Moth aircraft in which Chichester completed pioneering work in aerial navigation techniques.

"Range of healthy food included in a wide range of breakfast choice at the buffet. Staff friendly and helpful. Room clean and appealing due to its close proximity to Westquay shopping centre, Mayflower Theatre, cruise ships at Southampton harbour and rail links from Southampton central to london and other key cities. "Booked this hotel for a short stay which is perfect. The location is central to everything and the hotel is very accommodating. Staff were really helpful and friendly (which makes all the difference) If your looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you. It is what it is for the price. Great hotel, great food, rooms nice but not massive. Perfect for 1 or two nights. "

"A lovely place to stay. Beautiful room , very smart and clean, lovely river views, comfy bed and spotless linen.Only downside to room 19 is the noise during the day and early eve from people eating below on the terrace, but very quiet overnight. Also before 9am in the morning, hammer banging and electric drill noise outside window next to our headboard, suggest workmen check if room occupied before commencing work! But overall would recommend a stay, the staff were all very friendly and attentive and dinner in the restaurant was excellent."
