Accessible by ferry from Marina South Pier, St John's island is a quiet beach with clear waters and white sands a few kilometres south of Singapore and is known as one of Singapore's many beautiful offshore islands. The island was once a quarantine centre for immigrants coming into Singapore who had cholera, beri-beri and leprosy. It was later used to house political prisoners and drug rehabilitators, and the high barbed wire fences of yesteryears are still present today.
