As you fly into Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) and look out the plane's window, the city of Alajuela, Costa Rica, might appear unremarkable. But in many ways it represents the true spirit of Costa Rica. It's a town filled with friendly locals that are steeped in the country's culture. The streets are often congested as farmers bring their fresh produce to town to sell, and you can haggle at the various markets over fresh veggies, fruits, and clothing. Transportation from SJO
Flights to Alajuela can be long, so the first thing you will want to do is check into a hotel. Most hotels close to Juan Santamaria International offer free airport transfers to and from the airport to the hotel. If you want to travel into the heart of Alajuela, the Easy Ride Airport Super Shuttle service can take you from the airport to Alajuela. The shuttle service will transport you directly to your hotel or destination. The Taxis Unidos is the airport's official taxi service, and runs 24-hours per day. You can hire one of the taxis to transport you by visiting their office at the International Departures area in the airport. At the car rental area, you can also rent autos and four-wheel drive vehicles.
