We tried to shoot sunset but were about 10 minutes late. Did get some great colour over the mountains! We were located at the east end of Abraham lake, beside the dam.

Long exposure taken near Preachers Point at Abraham Lake.
Abraham Lake is located alongside the David Thompson Highway between Saskatchewan Crossing and Nordegg, Alberta. In summertime, this artificial lake is a stunning blue-green color which makes for some amazing photo opportunities. There is often a herd of bighorn sheep right along the highway too.
However, mid-winter is when this location really shines! When the lake freezes over, methane bubbles become trapped in the ice, which you can walk or even skate on. You can see right to the bottom. Ever walked on a bubbly, crystal-clear lake? It's a surreal experience and definitely worth checking out.

The hamlet of Nordegg, Alberta, was a former coal-mining town and named after Martin Nordegg and the name probably means “North Corner” in a German dialect. (June 2019)
