Lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach on a cloudy day; Turks and Caicos Islands, West Indies
A stretch of private beach on West Caicos Islands. Turks and Caicos Islands has only allowed tourism within the last 30 years and many houses we saw were concrete, doorless and the residents cooked in fires outside. Such a difference from the resorts and beach front rental homes!
The Tiki Hut behind our villa. It was a wonderfully peaceful place to sit and watch the waves and play with all the little lizards who inhabit the island. There are also lots and lots of stray dogs called "pot stickers." We heard you could adopt them of you want to. We saw a momma and her pups come to our villa looking for food. She was bony and obviously starving so we fed her but she wouldn't let us come close.
On the road in West Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands. Lots of homes like this pepper the roadsides. A stark contrast to the resorts on Provo, many homes are nothing more than concrete hulls with no electricity or running water. Some of the residents cook in concrete fire pits and do their washing outside as well.
