The Admiral, Downtown Historic District
"Our stay @ the Admiral Hotel in Mobile started wonderfully. Check-in was seamless, as hotel is beautiful, dinner @ the Chophouse was excellent, & breakfast delivered poolside from the café made for a perfect start to our getaway. After a fun day of shopping & the beach, we returned to find our room a tropical 80 degrees. The front desk promptly sent maintenance, & the technician was friendly & professional. While the unit was open, I jokingly asked its age. He smiled & said, “Older than it should be—it’s ancient!” He had it cooling again within about 40 minutes. Unfortunately, we woke up 3am sweating. The AC failed again. The front desk immediately offered another room. Although we were moved from a king to two double beds, we appreciated their quick response. The new room was nice and cold but had a noticeable mildew odor, which, from my experience maintaining HVAC systems, suggested it needed a thorough cleaning. The front desk again apologized and even offered another room, but by 4:00 a.m. we were simply too exhausted to move again. Our only other disappointment was being overlooked several times by the bartender in The Living Room before finally getting service. The manager handled everything with kindness, compassion, and professionalism, refunding one night’s stay and inviting us back. This hotel has tremendous charm and a wonderful staff. With a little preventative HVAC maintenance—and perhaps retiring a few “Civil War veteran” air conditioners—it could be a 5 star."
