Wanted to like this place more, and the history is definitely interesting, but could use upgrades. First room I got had a leak and second room the fridge didn’t work. Someone had stuffed tissue paper between the lock and the door cause otherwise it’s basically a peep hole into the room. Got a $10 credit for food and drink when I reserved online but then turns out they would only honor the drink. Breakers was good and the building is pretty, just fell short on value for me.

Check-in was so easy and the staff was very friendly and even offered the best chocolate chip cookies. Room was overlooking courtyard for a pretty night view. Very clean, quiet and provided everything we needed. It was an extremely cold day so no sitting outside. Loved the laid back feel of this beautiful historic hotel. Hopefully we can visit again on a warmer day.

I absolutely loved the El Capitan!!! I was truly impressed upon arrival! The courtyard and lobby are both intriguing, and just seemed to implore me to relax and sit awhile. If I hadn't had time constraints, I would have stayed another night just to lounge around the fireplace and eat in the restaurant. Besides all that, it was a clean, comfortable place to hang my hat for the night and get a good breakfast in the morning.

The breakfast I was blessed. The restaurant has an excellent menu that the locals come to dine. There are beautiful big windows to look out and outdoor seating on those rare Texas days you can sit outside.
