Nestled among the cornfields of the Midwest is Urbana, Illinois, a small college town that's full of life. Urbana shares a university campus with its sister town Champaign, and is the art and culture hub in this area. If you want a great vacation in a lesser-visited but vibrant city, book a stay in one of the great Urbana hotels.
The Spurlock Museum is on the University of Illinois campus, and contains an excellent collection of exhibits from around the world. Next door to the museum is the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, where you can see anything from student plays to world-class orchestral performances. All vacations in Urbana should include a visit to the Market at the Square, an extensive farmers' market selling fresh local produce, flowers, jewelry, and more. It's held on Saturday mornings, so try to time your trip so you can catch it. To stretch your legs, head to the beautiful Crystal Lake Park, and enjoy the open air. The town is quite small, and most of the hotels in Urbana are within walking distance of all these attractions.
Most of the bars and restaurants in Urbana are located in the Campustown area around the university. Green Street and Race Street have plenty of restaurants serving Mexican, Asian, Italian, and American cuisine. The neighboring city of Champaign, just a short taxi ride away, also has lots of restaurants, particularly in the North Prospect area. If you're thirsty, the best bars in Urbana are also on Green Street and Race Street.
