"I had a negative experience at this hotel. Upon arriving with my toddler who played in the sand all day, she wanted to take a shower and there was no hot water, and then I also saw mold in the shower. I then tried to distract her with TV and the remote did not work and was stuck on one channel which unfortunately was in Spanish. My first night the front desk was more friendly, and said he would check on it while we left to see family. We got back late in the evening and the water was still cold and we just decided to go to bed. She was thankfully able to shower at families house earlier. The next day we left early in the morning and came back and nothing was fixed and our room not cleaned. I went to front desk again and this person was awful. He was rude and kept saying “I don’t know why you’re complaining to me” when I was explaining that I expected hot water and a clean room. I did not yell, or use innapropriate language, I was asking why simple expectations were not met. He just pointed to a sign that said they don’t do cleaning services on one night stays, and I explained I was staying multiple nights. He tried to say it was too late for Maids to come. He also offered to change rooms which was fair, but difficult with a toddler and already unpacking all of our stuff. Either way though his tone and approach was rude. We had hot water the second night but I was suprised they didn’t even try to compensate for the first night or anything else’s the pool was dirty too"

"We loved our stay at the Gingerbread Mansion Inn. Our room was comfortable and beautifully maintained, and the entire inn had a warm, elegant Victorian ambience that made it feel like stepping back in time. The common areas were full of character, and the morning light filtering through the stained glass created a truly memorable atmosphere. Breakfast was wonderful. The gluten-free waffles were delicious, and we appreciated that dietary needs were accommodated without sacrificing quality. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared and served in a charming setting. Of all five overnight stops during our six-day Highway 1 road trip, Ferndale was our favorite town. It was cozy, welcoming, and full of historic charm. The beautifully preserved Victorian architecture, quiet streets, and relaxed pace made it feel like discovering a hidden gem. Gingerbread Mansion Inn was the perfect place to experience it. We would happily stay here again and would recommend both the inn and Ferndale to anyone looking for a unique Northern California getaway."
