Up-n-down

Pros: Rainfall shower was amazing. Safe area for my 8 year old daughter and me.
Cons: General updating - they were painting common area walls when we were there.
Location: Easy walk to train station and bus stops. Not much to do within 10 minutes' walk, but once you figure out the bus routes, nothing is far away.
Arrival didn't start off so hot, when the front desk told us our reservation had been canceled because our card was declined (which wasn't true - credit card company showed no record of an attempt to charge the card). Fortunately, there was still room, and they used the rates that we had originally booked with. Room was just what we needed - tight fit, but nothing out of the ordinary for Europe. Shower was GREAT. The kicker though was the non-stop running toilet, what I liked to call our "built in water feature." Each morning, I reported it to the hotel, but it was never completely fixed. One flush and it was off and running again with no temporary fix we could make overnight. Breakfast was fine - nothing outstanding, but filled the need. We did get GREAT service from one man at the front desk (whose name escapes me), who guided us to an incredible pool club in the suburbs to escape the summer heat. Even though it was very close to the train station, that only mattered when we left to go the airport. Next time, I will stay more centrally to all the sights.

Good location for walking on our own.

Pros: Lovely, historic, great staff. Fantastic breakfast buffet and excellent service.
Cons: For us, two important things were missing in the room. A chair and some kind of table to put luggage on. The room was small, but clean and bright.
Location: Walked to Plaza Venezia. Saw many buildings on the way. Nice shops and restaurants.
Staff recommended an excellent restaurant for dinner the first night. Next day walked to Plaza Venezia - beautiful, history well documented on signs by each building or ruins. We explored on our own during our visit, rather than take bus tours. Only had 2 days. Wonderful!

A 4 star gem

The Britannia Hotel situated on Via Napoli is a small four star hotel close to everything in Rome for a very reasonable price. Nice hotel, wonderful location right off Via Nationale. Just down the road from virtually everything, and six blocks from Termini Station and a 1 Euro train ride to anywhere in the city, to Ostica Antica, or Columbo on the Mediterranean. After three weeks backpacking in Europe throughout three countries, we ended up at the Britannia Hotel at the ending of our trip. We showed up quite early, and the staff did everything imaginable to make us welcome, including bringing juice to the front desk while we were checking in, and making cappicino's to order while we waited for our room. The entire staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome our entire stay. The Britannia puts on a great breakfast, (they offer traditional Italian fare and the only American style breakfast we encountered in Italy, included with lodging), and a wonderful atmosphere. The hotel also offers free wi-fi for guests. The rooms are quite nice with flat panel tv's, heated towel racks in the bathrooms, and even a tanning lamp next to the jetted tub. Marble columns and floors abound the the lobby and restaurant area. There are many good restaurants nearby, and the great shopping starts just down the street. As stated, close to Termini for easy connections and city travel, but all of the major sites are within walking distance. The Britannia gets a major thumbs up.

Wonderful Little Hotel

We were looking for a hotel that imersed you in the character of Rome. This was it. Very nice rooms, very helpful staff, bowls of fruit outside your door, REALLY small elevator, good location. We walked to all the big sites you'd want to see in Rome, except the Vatican - you'll need a short taxi ride for that. Very easy walk to some very nice restaurants that were recommended by the hotel staff. They were right-on and we enjoyed the experience completely. We are BIG cruisers and have stayed at many hotels all over the world prior to our cruises. This one is a little gem. Do not hesitate!\n\nThe hotel is on a side street in the shoping district - but don't be concerned about that. Once you get your bearings, you'll be able to easily navigate your way around and enjoy the city while your explore your way to the sights. The only down side was that they provide a bathroom scale in the rooms. Heck, we were on vacation. Why the heck would we want to weigh ourselves? Not fair guys!\n\nWe will be back to Rome on upcoming adventures, and this hotel will be the one we return to. When we checked out, they arranged our transportation to the cruise ports - and the driver was right on time.\n\nApplause, applause to the staff and management of the Britannia. I am honored to provide their first review!
