This was my first time staying in Richmond. I reviewed the hotel and the images before I booked it. It looked lovely. Clean, spacious and bright. I was expecting a clean room with Natural Light. But, that is not what walked into. The suite was large a kitchen, separate living area and a good size bedroom (with only one small window in the entire space) I felt like I was in a cave. The curtain in the bedroom was dirty. Carpets looked like they had seen better days. I was very disappointed. There seemed to be an issue with the shower drain as well.it didn’t drain properly .I went to the desk and asked for another room the next morning and was told nothing was available. The hotel appeared to be understaffed and the staff were kind, but appeared to be stressed. It’s unfortunate since I will definitely be traveling back to Richmond in the future to visit my family. I cannot refer or recommend this hotel as it was disappointing to me.

The only window in the whole space. Not much of a view either.

Nice historical hotel

We stayed two nights at the « Commonwealth » and appreciated our stay. Be aware that some rooms have a window with no view (the window faces the wall) and this is not clearly stated on the reservation. We had to upgrade to another room as we cannot stand not seeing the outside. Otherwise, rooms are nice and big, there is a need of better communication from the front desk personnel so that we feel welcome (a smile is free of charge)

Property itself and the neighborhood was nice. However, the staffs at front are basically chasing away the customers. My family and I stayed here for two nights. Bathtub and toilet was running water and we couldnt shut it completely. Making it irritating to sleep at night. First night, my wife called the front desk and asked for a shower cap and a box of tissue since there was no facial tissue in our room. We were told they dont have tissues and use toilet paper instead. And instead of bringing us a shower cap, we were told to come down and get it our selves. What kind of hotel does this? On our second night, we asked for a box of tissue again. Guess what, they still dont have it. I've also witnessed a front desk employee getting in to a confrontational argument with another customer who was trying to check in. I can tell there was an issue with whatever his situation was but the staff did not need to get confrontational. I would not be using this hotel again
