Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel
"Our first stay of 3 nights at the Berkeley was really nice. An older, but updated motel (small bathroom), with a good location just across the street from the boardwalk and beach was convenient. Great not to have to haul beach gear too far. Be advised that you need to purchase beach passes each day. There are boardwalk shops and restaurants close by too. A couple of criticisms, though nothing to keep me from returning: free coffee in the morning in the lobby was really watery. Before you run off to their little cafe to buy a better cup, note that the cafe’s regular coffee seemed the same to me! Note that walls are pretty thin. The kids zooming in/out didn’t bother us. Night was quiet. Parking is valet only or you rough it on the streets with pay parking. Two zones nearby: one was $3/hr, the further one, $1/hr. I was irritated by the arrangement at their pool: not only are all cabanas rental, the rest of the areas around the perimeter that have a “sail style” shade canvas are also rental only. Far too much rental space. The free pool lounges/umbrellas, in the middle around the pool deck, are fine. In all, I thought our stay worked out well."
