We had the ocean view suite with the spa on the balcony and WOW!!! We were out there watching the sunset and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip. The hotel was beautiful, and the food at the restaurant was amazing. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby if you don’t want to pay standard US prices for a meal. Loved this place and would recommend it to anyone thinking about staying in Playa Hermosa. (Which is way better than Coco IMO).

I liked the helpful, personable staff, the excellent location, and the layout and landscaping of the property. I stayed here 9 years ago, and on this return stay, I found the hotel to need refurbishing. Better wood furniture (reflective of beautiful Costa Rican craftsmanship) should be installed to replace the cheaply made stuff that is currently there.

marvelous vacation at the bosque del mar

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
We had a marvelous vacation at the Bosque del mar. It is so refreshing to stay at a hotel (especially outside the states) that is exactly as advertised. The room was high end with a gorgeous bathroom. Our second floor room (#601) had a king bed and balcony with view of the sunset (ask for an ocean front if you can get it – worth the price). Be aware the internet only works if you're closer to the restaraunt. The staff throughout was very attentive and pleasant. We ate at the hotel several times for all three meals and found the food was very good and reasonable – We especially recommend the shrimp. We took two trips thru the hotel - sunset cruise (a good deal at $75 / person# and a 5 hours trip #including a 2 ½ hour boat ride thru the park and a lovely local lunch afterwards# to the Palo Verde Park #at $ 110 its not cheap, but well worth seeing the breath of birds, monkeys and crocs – a 14 footer cruised within one foot of our boat!# We ate dinner one night up the street #less than 5 minutes) at the Villa Del Sueno restaurant / hotel. It was more expensive than the Bosque and comparable in quality. A few things you must do if your visit: first, go to a local restaurant called Ginger’s. Do not miss going there, we went twice. Directions: walk down the beach and just past Agua Sports cut up the street. Walk about ¼ mile and you come to the main road – Ginger’s is across the street. There are many locals walking the beach who will take you out on a boat. Based on internet reviews we sought out “Aldofo” who was hanging close to our hotel. He took us on the best snorkeling trip of our life. He is an amazing guide and took us to two different sites, both teeming with fish. We convinced a family of 10 to try him, and they went out on two different days. We did not make it to the volcano or other parks; it was too nice lying on the beach. Next time, we’ll plan to stay at a hotel closer to the natural parks for a few days and then spend the remainder back at the Bosque del mar.

Charming EcoLodge

Pros: Free Internet
We were pleasantly surprised by the Hotel as we thought rustic reviews would be mean dirty. The hotel was really clean with beautiful modern bathrooms, clean rooms and lovely landscaping. The property was right on the beach. We loved all the natural fauna and giant trees shading the rooms. It was a quaint, quiet spot... except for the occassional howl of the howler monkey! The food options at the hotel and nearby were limited and average. Suggest stocking up at the big supermarket

Amazing way to end our Honeymoon

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
We stayed at the Hotel Playa Hermosa Bosque del Mar in early December for a couple days. We loved our beachfront room with the jacuzzi on our balcony. The staff helped us arrange for a snorkeling trip and massages on the beach. We ate a couple meals at the hotel restaurant, too. All together, it was a wonderfully relaxing location and well run hotel.
