The room was very clean and the ac was so cold at night! From check-in to bartenders to check out, I can literally say Costa Rica has amazing people working at their hotels. The drinks and the atmosphere was so welcoming. I traveled alone to this hotel for 5 days and definitely feel it wasn’t enough.

We arrived 730 pm on a weekday so our check in time was quick, maybe 15 mins or so (same can’t be said if you are afternoon arrival). Need to be in line for steakhouse by 515 pm at the latest. Buffet food was mediocre but gets the job done for all inclusive purposes. Dining hall clean and organized. Staff helpful and timely. Alcoholic drinks are sugary and watered down but you can counter this by asking for shots or beer. Overall, I’m glad we were by the beach and enjoyed an all inclusive experience in a country we haven’t been to, but I wouldn’t return here again nor would I encourage friends/family to stay here.

The staff was very nice, helpful, and friendly. The food was great at all the restaurants, except for the steak at the steak house. We ate there twice and both times it was very chewy like it was not ribeye steak. Another minor disappointment was the sewer smell in the bathroom, despite being cleaned often. Almost, like there wasn't a good barrier (P-trap) in the pipes to keep the smell out. My family occupied three rooms, and it was the same in all the rooms. Other customers we spoke to had the same experience. Also, there wasn't a vent in the bathrooms, so after showering there was a lot of moisture on the walls. One of our rooms already has some mold on the ceiling area above the shower. It puzzles me how this was over looked during the renovations. Despite the above, we had a great time and experience and would go back again. Hopefully, someone reads this and takes appropriate action to rectify these issues.

outdoor and indoor with interior design of hotel is beautiful, there is problem with sewer smell, especially in the bathrooms, service and front desk its a disaster, after check in we notice that our toilet flash does not work, safe box and phone was not working, when we went to front desk, manager told me that he is busy so he even bother to help us, someone finally came after 45 min after second our ingereration. Food overall was good but very limited options, all station had the same food, pool was full of bugs, like noone was cleaning, there was nobody to help us with luggage in and out, bathroom has only hand soap and shampoo with body wash, there was no hair conditioner, had to buy in local store, beach had a volcanic sand which was dark, so there is no turquoise water if someone like it. room service was only cleaning the bed, did not refill wash, one of our friends left clother to be washed in the drycleaner, never get it back. Riu guanacaste needs lots of improvement starting from customer service at the front, to room service. Buffet option had no bacon and there was no station for omelets, by 9.30 almost everything was empty so if you there please eat your breakfast early in the morning.

The resort is beautiful, but improvements are needed. Our fridge was not stocked upon arrival. The bellman had to notify housekeeping to come refill. The male front desk staff seemed to not know much information nor have good customer service. It was my birthday trip so my spouse asked if there were any birthday services provided or that he could pay for (such as decorations or birthday cakes, etc.) and they told him no - but on our last night, there were several birthday celebrations done in the Liberia buffet. We didn’t know about this option, which was disappointing that it wasn’t mentioned when my spouse asked. The BIGGEST disappointment was that there was no food available after 10pm. The one restaurant “American County” that was supposed to have food available until 11pm, stopped providing food every night after approximately 9:50pm. They only gave out small snack items at the time of closing for the guests. The tortilla chips in that restaurant are stale and need to be changed out. I think it is dangerous and concerning to not provide guests with a decent amount of at least light food options, and continuously providing alcohol all night. There were no food delivery options available either. ANOTHER disappointment was the inability to make reservations at the restaurants. So much time was spent on lines and sitting around waiting to get into the restaurants. Many guest complained about this. A reservation system needs to be implemented for smoother experiences.

Stayed for 10 days and only had the fridge stocked twice, liquor cabinet was not filled at all, front desk does not care about guest experience Was not able to get into any of the restaurants as the wait lists were hours long so we ate at the Buffett every time, no tips on pool ques, spiders and webs that had obviously been there for weeks above the bed. Ask to have them taken care of a few times with no results. As diamond members at the RIU’s the guanacaste was very disappointing. The staff work hard.

the 600.00 cedit was impossible and misleading to use. stores wanted you to spend 100. usd. before using credit Spa services requred apending over 100. to receive 10.00 to 30.00 off. The hotel would tell us that till you were checked in. dining was horrible. could not reserve had to stand in of over 300 people first come first serve. I have never been at all inclusive and could not make reservations. Had t move rooms as hotel assigned us wrong uncleaned room. inroom coffee was only replenished every 2 days same as bar fridge. dissapointed

RIU could improve on the check-in time and the process. It took me and my 1 hour to check-in. The desk staff could be helpful when being asked for assistance. The room was not clean properly. ⭐ 1/5 — Renovated, but EVERYTHING else is TRASH I rarely leave negative reviews, but this stay was so bad I feel like I have to warn other travelers. The property may be newly renovated, but that’s literally the only positive thing I can say. Food & Restaurants: The food was horrible. Most restaurants were buffet-style with almost no variety, and there were very few American dishes. The steakhouse—the only option that might have offered something decent—has extremely limited seating and operates on a first-come, first-serve basis for all guests. Because of this ridiculous system, there were multiple nights we couldn’t even get dinner. Staff & Service: The staff was shockingly rude. Towels smelled sour, and some days there were no towels at all. They even left used cleaning towels in our room at one point. On top of that, my Meta Ray-Bans went “missing” and were later found hidden on the property in a way that made me feel like someone may have been trying to keep them. (Photos included.) Room Conditions: The room had a strong mildew smell. On the first day there was no hot water, and the TV didn’t work either. Not what you expect from a so-called resort. Crowded & Uncomfortable: The place was absolutely packed with locals, which made the environment overwhelming and not at all relaxing. It didn’t feel like a good experience for tourists. Overall, this was one of the worst resort stays I’ve ever had. DO NOT STAY AT THIS LOCATION!!!

Right from the start the vacation at Riu Guanacaste was poor. Check-in took more than an hour. The food was terrible. I never had one hot meal even at breakfast. The eggs were cold specialty restaurant, such as agave and the Asian restaurant also had cold food. No amenities in the room, other than a bottle of soap by the sink and in the shower, their place too high for short people. When I arrived, the mini bar had three cans of tonic water in the refrigerator. It was not filled again until four evenings later, which was the night before I left. Very disappointed with the entire trip.

The hotel staff at the Riu Guanacaste made our trip super comfortable. They were timely in meeting all of our needs. The “Michael Jackson” show is a must see, as we were thoroughly entertained. And you have to visit the onsite steak house restaurant! The salmon is the best thing in the menu. However, there were two things that took away from our stay; (1) the check-in process. It took us over 2 hours to check-in. We thought that after flying over 5 hours and then catching a 45 minute taxi that the check-in process would’ve been more streamlined. However, this was not the case. The Riu has to do better with their check-in process. (2) The food. Aside from the steak house restaurant, the food onsite was mid at best. We found ourselves longing for McDonald’s, which is something we rarely eat. All in all, this trip was a success but we are not sure if we would revisit this location again.

Room: 6.5/10 (Our room was cleaned well, decent view, but sound echoes throughout hallway make it hard to sleep) Restaurants: 2/10 (First come first served.. want to eat dinner at 6pm.. show up at 5pm to get in line, food is mediocre at best) Staff: 7/10 (Our interactions with staff was warm and friendly) Amenities: 5/10 (We enjoyed the close proximity to the beach) Overall: 5.5/10 - The hotel and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful, the locals are friendly and helpful, but we really felt like there was nothing else spectacular about the resort. We came as a part of a wedding party and they had their own issues with the entire process.
