"We had our honeymoon on the island in 1996, and just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary by returning. The staff at the Halvard was so nice, and so accommodating. "On arrival at the hotel, through the seafront entrance, you can not ignore that the carpet looks like it is from a 1990's night club and has not been cleaned since. "Wonderful older building on the sea front with an elevator/lift. Simply oozes character. We were on the top floor in the slightly more expensive larger rooms overlooking the sea and the port area to watch the ships coming and going. Close to downtown for restaurants and shopping and easy walking distance from the ferry terminal. Excellent cooked breakfast included. Staff were most helpful. All at a reasonable cost. The only downside is very slight evidence of fighting to keep damp out of this older building subject to winter storms off the Irish Sea - did not detract in any way from our enjoyable stay."
