It is a beautiful hotel and the décor decidedly different then American hotels. We were given a room on the 4th floor with a fireplace so I think it may have been larger then the normal rooms. It is located near a Metro station and if you are fit, you can walk to old town and old port. The breakfast was very European with the addition of meats, cheeses and hard boiled eggs. The dining area is crowded during the breakfast hours, but you can usually find a table after a short wait. I will say that this is not a hotel if you are disabled or cannot climb steps. Just getting into the hotel could be a challenge and there is no elevator once you are in. We paid for valet parking and you really don't have much choice. Some people have suggested you can get a better deal at a nearby college lot. I would definitely stay at this hotel if I were returning to the city.

My mother and I I went for four days and three nights we had a great time! The hotel is literally in the heart of Montreal - Close to the Museum of fine arts and three blocks away from Saint Catherine - staff room and great breakfast!

Enjoyable stay for a week

We spent 8 days in Montreal -- the entire time staying at this hotel. The first night we arrived rather late, and when we looked over our room we were a little disappointed, as the only window looked out over a roof and air conditioning equipment. The next day we asked about moving to a room with a more pleasant view of Montreal, and we were fortunate that we were able to move to a sunny room with a southern exposure and a view of the downtown area. The rest of our stay was very pleasant. We found the staff to be helpful, the casual breakfast (included) to be quite good, and the hotel location was very much to our liking (in a neighborhood with many art galleries and close to the Musee des Beaux-Arts Montreal.) Overall a very good experience!

nice smelly and noisy

I was in a room nearby Fitness Center. Bad smelling in the room. I call front desk because of some noise around midnight. A gentleman came and said that he could not fix it. I asked for another room none of them were available. Breakfast room is too small

Not Bad....

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and very close to metro. We were given a very small room, the bed was not comfortable and our coffee maker was in the washroom beside the toilet. No recycling bins.

Very comfortable with friendly staff

We stayed one night to go to the tennis tournament. There is a metro station a block away. Room was large, comfortable and quiet. Staff was friendly and helpful. They have umbrellas in case of rain. No elevator but okay with us. Would stay again.

Very friendly place.

Pros: Quiet
The hotel is very quiet and being on a busy street this is great. The breakfast is satisfying and there is no rushed feeling while you sit and drink coffee and read the paper (provided by hotel in English and French). The room was a bit small but since we were not in the room a lot it did not pose a problem. However, the bathroom could have been a bit larger. All in all I recommend the Chateau Versailles to anyone who would like to be near downtown but away from the hustle and bustle (bus stops available without a long walk). This was our second stay and we will go back when we are in Montreal again.

Old World Charm

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, close to metro, very helpful desk staff, safe in room
My initial impression of this hotel was not good - no local maps or brochures in the lobby, the room was orange. However, as I de-stressed from my drive, I learned to really appreciate the charm of this place. The front desk staff was wonderful, patiently answering all our questions and providing us with metro maps and tours info. The breakfast was a bountiful European spread served in a charming room with ambience and music. The shower was wonderful. The nightly chocolate and note with the folllowing day's temperature were a nice touch. Parking nearby was reasonable and convenient. I slept great in the very comfortable bed in a very dark and quiet room. My only complaint would be that the lighting was not good for reading although the chandelier was very beautiful.

Gem!

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, under-utilizied gym
Cons: road construction nearby
Montreal isn't cheap, so all I can say is that this place is incredible value for money! Location is very good for museums and trips to the Mount Royal park, it's easy to get cabs to other parts of the city. As for the hotel itself - awesome. The staff were first class, all of them I met, the facilities were great (breakfast, gym) and the room was extremely comfortable. It was like being at home, but with room service! (I only used room service once but it was very good and reasonable value compared to going out.) Given that I picked this place based on online reviews and gut feelings on the photos, I think I got lucky. Many colleagues stayed at much worse places for the same or even more money. I know where I'll aim for next time I need to go to Montreal!
