Location is perfect and the room was very charming. We loved the character and feel of the room. The one complaint we had was the tv did not connect to our phone and the front desk did not have a recommendation to resolve it. Other than that very minor issue, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back!

The hotel was quiet and comfortable. They also offered a complimentary log to enjoy in my room’s fireplace which made for a cozy evening. The hotel was only a few blocks from downtown Monterey and Fisherman’s Wharf. Parking was a bit tight but manageable. I would happily stay here again!

Room was lovely with a fireplace and a balcony overlooking the garden. The property is historic, but the bathrooms have been remodeled, so are modern. The location is fantastic--easy walk to Fishermans Wharf, restaurants and historic sites, right in Old Town Monterey. Staff were lovely. The breakfast was fine. No room service or luxury hotel amenities, but to me the charm and historic ambiance more than make up for that.

At first we were put in a first floor room, this hotel is on a busier street and less tucked away than the photos. Things have clearly been updated in decor but the amenities themselves are lacking, our A/C thermostat didn't work and there was a pot smell that either was wafting from another room or outside. Okay for one night on a road trip but wouldn't stay longer or return here.

We love the beautiful, spacious, and comfortable rooms. We enjoyed having a balcony with a garden view. There's a bit of traffic noise, but it quiets down later in the evening. The staff is always kind and helpful. Most of all, we really love the location and it has more of an airbnb feel instead of a big hotel. It's very walkable to restaurants, shopping, piers, and the Golden State Theatre. It is now our "go to" hotel when in Monterey.

Merritt Monterey

The Room Climate Control was inoperable... it would have been nice to have the fireplace " Electric".. no instructions on how to use it , shower head and water pressure could have used an upgrade.. However, The staff was excellent, The Room Staff was 10 out of 10! ...Bed was very comfortable, the town / Hotel Location was great! Good WiFi.. Nice place to stay.

I had much higher expectations for this hotel. It’s clean and well kept, but the building is like an apartment building, with the thinnest walls ever. You will hear your neighbor’s conversations, their coughing and everything else in between. The breakfast was also disappointing. Nothing hot. Hot water in the shower was also hit and miss. Disappointing.

Great Location

This hotel was in a great location within easy walking distance to downtown and Fisherman's Wharf. There is a trolley stop nearby but the trolley is not running at this time of the year. The room was a good size with a wood burning fireplace and a small fridge ( fyi…no microwave but not needed). I wish I would have brought a duraflame log! It was difficult to find a single log to buy nearby. Beverage cart with coffee & tea was steps outside my patio each morning. The room was just a little too cold for me and couldn’t figure out the heater. (Extra blanket was too thin.). Other than that, I would definitely stay here again.
