mid century charm

Pros: Close restaurants, authentic
last minute reservation finds a hidden gem. this hotel is in the old section of mazatlan - walking distance to markets, bakerys, churches and true culture. the beach is across the street. Overall I consider it far superior to the tourist section of town far to the north. It has a feel of midcentury cuba or argentina. really pleasant and fun. Hotel is very inexpensive. rooms aren't resort quality or anything but perfectly passable - especially for the younger set. Pool is small and really just for rinsing off from the beach or a quick dip. the beach is directly across the street at viewable from the hotel and front facing rooms. the beach here is way more surfable/wavy than up at the resort hotels. just overall a beautiful and quaint setting and I highly recommend. would stay here again.

La Siesta Hotel

If you want to stay in the real Mazatlan with the locals, instead of being in the tourist zoo north of town. This is a great choice. The views from the ocean view rooms are wonderful, you have the best view of the nicest stretch of waterfron in towm. In addition to the ocean, the seaside promenade is before you, and you can take in a lot of local color just by hanging out on your balcony. It really is a short walk to the old town, small museums and galleries, and the nicest plaza in town. You have a wide choice of restaurants and small bars along the waterfront within 100yds of the hotel. All the ocean front rooms have a nice little balcony, rooms themselve are clean, the beds comfortable, and you have everything you basically need. Staff is friendly, pleasant, and helpful; the service was great, no problems. You will hear some street noise with the ocean view rooms, but the traffic is pretty sparse after 10pm, it wasn't a problem for us, we had no trouble sleeping. But if you're sensitive to traffic noise, you might get bugged, and want to take a back room instead.

We stayed on La Siesta Hotel on our Vacation in June 2008 Location is very calm;excellent food at the Shirm Bucket;very nice atmoshere at night food stands, souveniers,Room was cozy but old school not fancy which kind of like it;Small Pool.If you like the real Mazatlan this is your place just minutes from Night Life and Fancy Zona Hotelera. Close to ferry and Lighthouse.Just a Shot Drive from Mazatlan International Airport and Downtown.

Location, location, location

What a deal!! One of the lowest priced hotels in Mazatlan with across the street from a nice beach (we upgraded to ocean view, and what a view it was, for an additional $10/night). Very clean, large room (try to get a corner room). Consistent hot water for showering. Beds are not plush and pillows a bit lumpy but we had good nights' sleep. Even though it's overlooking the Malecon and a busy street, the doors and windows did a good job of sealing off the noise. Within walking distance of the Machado, cathedral, market and theater. The downstairs restaurant, El Shrimp Bucket, offered nice breakfasts and dinners, inside or outdoors. The only things lacking that we'd have liked were a refrigerator and coffee pot. The pool area is very nice, but the water was quite cool.

Good value

I stayed at the La Siesta Nov 15-22. It is an older hotel across the street from the ocean. I stayed in an ocean view room which is one of the best ocean view deals in town. The room was good size, nice and clean with a nice balcony overlooking the ocean. The beach across the road was great for swimming. The waves were not too big and not too small and the water was warm. The hotel is about 4 blocks west of the Plaza Machado and opera house where there are many restaurants and much activity at night. There is a great massage place about 2 or 3 blocks east of the hotel. It is called the Aroma Spa and massages were only 150 pesos. You can take a green bus right in front of the hotel to the golden zone for only 8 pesos. The bus coming back does not drop you off in front of the hotel though. You need to get off at the Mercado by the cathedral and walk the 4 or 5 blocks. The hotel area is laid back and fairly quiet. There are good beer specials at the Belmar Hotel along with a ping pong table. The ocean view rooms are kind of noisy because the street runs right in front of the hotel and it is fairly busy with buses and trucks and cars between 630am-1030pm but there sure is an incredible sunset. Another fun thing to do is climb to the top of the lighthouse hill which is not far from the hotel. It provides a great view. I wish there was a place to rent a bike near the hotel. The hotel is probably best for travelers over 30 years old.

Much better than the tourist area

If you want to see the best part of Mazatlan stay here. The rooms are clean and the view of the ocean was great. For the money best place in Mazatlan. Also, go to Canucks on open mic night. Lots of fun. Todd & Bobby

Watch Your Stuff!

We spent two weeks at the Hotel Siesta and loved every minute of it except up to the last night when our room was entered and some items removed: a camera, a leathermans tool, a pair of sunglasses and a change purse with money (and the key to the safety lock box at reception which entailed calling a locksmith). There was no sign of a forced entry and I have to assume it was an inside job (maids? maintenance? who else would have had keys?). Thank goodness I had placed our passports, credit cards etc in the lock box (as strongly recommended by the management). The odd thing was the lady at reception showed no curiosity, interest, or even care that this had happened to us (no apologies or anything!). And as we were leaving that morning, there wasn't much follow-up we could do. So my recommendation is: Go ahead and stay there - it's a great spot - but keep all valuables (even down to cameras, i-pods, etc) in the lock box at all times.

My stay

The hotel was wonderful! The ocean view and location are excellent. Plus, we were able to enjoy the music and the Shrimp Bucket downstairs. I stayed for 9 days and was wonderful!

Perfect Location/Needs Attitude Check

Location is in the middle of everything: make two rights and your in the center of town and the cathedral, take a 3 dollar taxi to the port and take a 1.50 boat ride two and from isla de los piedras....take a 4 dollar taxi to the monumetal plaza and see lucha libre, and take a 4 dollar taxi to the strip of tourist hotels and clubs. It was a nice break from the traditional tourist areas...
