During the breakfast buffet, we were the only table that the staff weren’t attending. They kept passing our table knowing our table needs to be empty because dishes were on top of the other already. But still didn’t take out plates away. We felt discriminated. For unknown reasons.

There were plentiful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. The hotel had free shuttle service to Kyoto Station, which is a transportation hub and it is nearby. It is centrally located and has shops and stores in walking distance. There were several excellent restaurants on the premises. The only negative, I believe, is that the sauna is only for men. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend it.

Upscale hotel close to Kyoto station

Pros: Upscale, clean

Location: Easy walk to the station, Kyoto Tower, the Nishi Honganji Temple, and the Toji Pagoda.

This was a very nice, upscale hotel close to the Kyoto Train station. Shuttle service to/from the station (west side). The room was large and clean, the Nespresso machine was a plus. You can buy the breakfast buffet as part of the package and it's reasonably priced. The location is away from some of the more touristy areas, but all the major tours pickup/drop off here.

Great hotel for our family

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet

Our family stayed at the RIHGA Royal Hotel in Kyoto during a recent trip through Japan. We booked a double room with an extra bed and the room was all set up before we arrived, making us feel welcome. The room was large enough for three beds and luggage. Everything was clean and fresh in the room and bathroom. The staff was helpful with all our inquiries about transportation and site seeing in Kyoto (many of them spoke very good English). There was a nice bakery at the hotel where we bought snacks during the day. Although the hotel is located close to the train station - which is convenient for shopping and transportation - the rooms are very quiet.

Royal Rhiga Kyoto

Travelling with our teenage daughter often caused problems as many hotels do not cater for families. I chose the Royal Rhiga because it had triple rooms - 2 king singles and a comfy fold-out for our daughter. The room was clean and comfortable but overly heated (we were there during winter). There is a shuttle to the Kyoto train station that runs every half hour. We found this very convenient as you can get to all venues using the trains and the buses (the bus terminal is behind the train station). You could walk as it is only 5-6mins in the shuttle. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately we found the hotels restaurants l to be expensive so chose to eat in one of the many restaurants in the area.

Superb Hotel!

We stayed at the Rhiga Royal Hotel April 2-6, 2007, and have nothing but raves about the hotel and especially its outstanding service. Every member of the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The free shuttle service to and from the Kyoto Train Station was the best I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. Restaurants were delightful and room maticulously maintained. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone!
