The staff and environment were lovely. We were invited to relax and enjoy a cup of tea before checking in while the staff assisted other guests. The entire lobby and sitting areas instantly promote a sense of calm and serenity. Unfortunately for us, we didn’t realize we should have arrived earlier in order to reserve a time in the bath. We were disappointed about this but that was our “rookie” mistake. The room was clean and quaint. We enjoyed the use of the yukata provided and the futons and bedding were very comfortable. The duvets and sheet coverings were so soft and fluffy. Thank you for a real treat of this Japanese ryokan experience!

Walkable distance from the busier shopping streets and metro stations. In a nice quiet neighborhood. Gave restaurant recommendations which is really helpful for tourists.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this traditional ryokan. We opted for the tatami mats which were extremely comfortable and provided an authentic experience. All of the staff were so helpful and attentive, the Japanese breakfast was delicious, and we really enjoyed the selection of drinks at the in-house bar. If you stay here, I’d recommend taking advantage of the activities offered by the hotel - we took part in a traditional tea ceremony and loved it! The lady who ran this was so lovely and made this experience one of the highlights of our trip. The location was also fantastic; we were within walking distance of so many great shops, restaurants and things to do. If I had one tiny gripe, it would be that the air conditioning unit in the room was a bit noisy and might bother you if you’re a light sleeper. That being said, this is vastly outweighed by the many other pros to staying here. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a traditional stay in a lovely part of Kyoto!

My stay here was amazing definitely my favorite place I stayed at while I was exploring Japan for 2 weeks. The rooms were gorgeous with the tatami mats and traditional decor. The whole staff was incredibly kind and accommodating special shoutout to Sana for helping me find fun things to do around the city and for making my bed lol. Even when I accidentally missed the breakfast that I scheduled and showed up 3 hours late they were all very nice and still gave me excellent food and service sorry if I stressed y’all out! I had an amazing time the staff made me feel very welcome and at home and I highly recommend staying here if you have the chance!

Very traditional inn, but loved that the bathrooms have been updated. Friendly staff. Would definitely recommend this establishment for anyone looking to stay at a more traditional inn in Kyoto.

This hotel was quite pricey and was not worth the currency spent. Though it was very clean and the staff were kind, it was very inconvenient to travel to and locate. The Wi-Fi’s reach was very poor and didn’t live up to its expectations.

I very rarely give ratings this low but let me explain. The location of the Ryokan has the highest marks from me. It is very walkable to the Nishiki market in a quiet neighborhood. The lowest marks comes from the service. Don't get me wrong. The staff was pleasant, but most were not very competent regarding our reservations and the check in and out process. We had three rooms and our bags were all mixed up, which resulted in our having to switch rooms and bags. They also couldn't get the invoices correct upon checkout. I want to emphasize that they were all very friendly, but they just need additional training. Pierre especially, I felt, tried so hard to make things right, but again, even our invoices after we left were not correct. The Ryokan itself was very nice; the futon mattresses were very comfortable. I recommend NOT taking advantage of the bath. Save yourself the 500Y and skip it. It is just a large bath and not a traditional furo bath that I've experienced in the past. And regardless, it only fits one person comfortably.

They really take pride in what they do! 5-stars!

The staff is stellar!! They go out of their way to make things so easy for you. After 26 hours travel time and a sick partner, they went out of their way to help me. And I’m confident this is how they treat everyone all the time. I couldn’t say enough nice things about the staff! So friendly, helpful and very fluent in English! The room was immaculately clean, and the comforter was so warm and high quality! I was incredibly impressed and hope to stay with you again!

This is a fantastic little hotel that gives one a taste of the traditional Ryokan experience. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming, especially Pierre-san at the front desk. We stayed here three nights just before Christmas. Rooms were clean, large and quiet. Near the Nishiki Market. Large common room and roof deck for DIY meals or cocktails. Highly recommend.

The hotel room we stayed in isn’t big enough for 3 people. Although we were looking for a traditional ryokan experience there was very limited space. We had to take turns getting ready and packing because the area for luggage is the same as the walking area/ clothing area. There is no microwave or eating area. 3 futons on the ground took up the entire hotel room and it essentially felt like camping. There is no furniture besides the porch chair. It’s very small, after 4 nights we were more than ready to leave. Not worth the price at all, location was great though
