Japanese Ryokan

The Ryokan was very clean and the owner was very friendly and it is near Kyoto station. However the room was on the 3rd floor and we had to climb 2 flights of rather narrow stairs. Also, there was no on-suite bath. But the most disturbing thing was that the walls were thin and you could hear people in the next room talking and/or snoring..

Washing area was on the hallway and there wasnt hot water offered when it was cold in the December. The room was very out dated.. it was close to the station but there were many more other options around that area that could be better than here

Nice location I stayed at the new building for 4 nights There is a family mart just opposite the ryokan Quite a lot of facilities Room is clean but small There is a washing and drying machine Host is able to speak English Quite location, lots of attractions nearby 5 to 10 mins walk to kyoto station There are no lift, only stairs hence you need to climb a lot especially when you need to go brush teeth and shower

The comfort of the bedding and the hotel staff was excellent. For the amount of guests shared bathrooms were never an issue. Halls were hot during record heat week, but rooms stayed cool with the A/C units. Staff offered us a ride one hot morning when we had our longest morning walk of the trip. Very walkable and near the Kyoto Tower. A great traditional Japanese place to stay.

Traditional Japanese room with tatami mats and futon. The owner was lovely and drove us to places. The shared kitchen was a great addition.

Good location, very basic and potentially no wifi.

The Ryokan itself smelled of dog as the owner lets their dog roam around. I booked to stay here for a Ryokan experience however my room was actually in a different apartment building a block or two away. The room was someones apartment and was quiet clean another benefit was I had a personal bathroom and kitchen facilities. However no wifi and I had to go back to the main Ryokan to access the internet.

Good in a pinch, but that's it

Before reading this, you should be aware that a ryokan is a traditional Japanese inn. They are NOT hotels. I only stayed there because I got stuck in Kyoto overnight when my train was cancelled. It's basically a person's house who speaks very limited English (and I quote "boy bathroom down a stair"), although the latter wasn't expected. There are two shower rooms, one for men and the other for women. I would advise against a bath since you use the same water as everyone else. The showers are fine though. Light sleepers will have trouble. The "beds" were futons on the floor (as in the mattress part of a futon couch). I can't speak for the other rooms, but my futon had a lot of hair on it. I poked it several times and was relieved to find no bedbugs. The walls are extremely thin too, so you can hear anyone walking on the second floor and anyone snoring in the other rooms. Homely

Comfortingly like home, with the same build-up of dust on the picture rail, and CSI could build an episode analysing the splatter by the door handle, but a simple & fine place really. In a good place & the nice lady who guards the door of her home gave me a coffee sweet as I left, which is more than those grimly spotless 3x & 4x hotels do.

Traditional family run place

The room was small but comfortable, as a very old building it has some very out of date features so you could certainly not call it modern in any way, however we booked this hotel to get a taste of traditional style Japan and that is the experience we had. We enjoyed it very much and if you are looking for that authentic world war era Japan experience this place is perfect for a couple of days.

It's more like a home stay

Little cozy hut close to Kyoto station. Very friendly owner. Plenty of food options in nearby Yodobashi. Shared bathrooms and toilets (different). Don't expect creature comfort. But good experience nonetheless.
